Thanks. What gets me is why he was ever a rescue dog. Perfectly house trained and pretty much well behaved for the most part.: Barking at other critters, which I couldn't care less about. It's part of his herding instinct.

I think maybe because he also barks at kids and would also chase them if they provoked him. It's not him being vicious, he just thinks he needs to heard the world of other critters and kids, and strangers not used to it may freak out and just make him want to chase his targets even more. But he does good with anyone he's well familiar with. My kid(s) are grown but we had a neighbor child who he got along with once he realized that particular kid was a normal part of the human scenery and he need not be herded like the others.

He was already fully grown when I got him (supposed to be about 1.5 years, but who knows for sure). So he's the same size, pretty much. He's got a little more weight to him now (I've had him for 7 years). I'd say he's about 40 pounds (and was 35 when I got him). He's still pretty active when outside (he soon learned to be chill whenever inside and not having play-times). He was never extremely fast, but when he was younger he was a super zig-zagger, turn-on-a-dime mover which allowed him to keep up with the faster dogs in his play group. It even allowed him to catch-up to the other critters he chased. Like I said though, anything he's cornered/surrounded he doesn't know what to do with except bark at them, in an effort to get them running again. He can't be bothered with the actual catching part.

He's still very bendy. He's a super curler when we're in bed. Yes, he sleeps with us. His short coat is easy to keep clean (since he's white-ish, any dirt is easily visible). He doesn't shed, although he has blow-outs twice a year. And zero slobber. He can lick you and you'd still be dry after he's done it. Just like a cat's licker.

I have to pick him up to put him in the car even though it's pretty low. Lower than it is for him to jump up onto the bed. He's good with not fidgeting when you pick him up (left hand between the forelegs and supporting the chest, right forearm holding his thighs, always and never in reverse),but when he wants down he's not afraid to wiggle loose. There were rare occasions where he got pootered out from his walkies and I had to carry him. I'd carry him around my shoulders like a shepherd would carry a lamb.

I forgot to add it took him maybe 3-4 years before he realized he can be on the bed without us. He now thinks it's his bed and puts up with us every night. We have these nice dog beds that I eventually got rid of because he never uses them anymore. Also, he doesn't get on any of the other furniture.

Someone must have been mean to him because its is an ongoing process of trust. He still is gun shy when called to you even though all you want is to give him some ear rubs.

Oh well, he has found his happy home and we are so glad to have him.

I tell everyone that it's Bear's world and we're all just living in it. Were I younger and not had other dogs I'd might have been a little more controlling of his behavior. But my experience led me to understand it's not wise to be that suppressive, especially since the way he is, it's part of why I love him in the first place.

prolly not the best time to sell. too bad, too. market was pretty dece before covid you could have moved up to a single family home for what you are paying now.

or at least one where the HOA isn't so restrictive about pets. Prolly would have to be a smaller guy but hey, i have had poodles and my Iggy mix so it is still a win
