Caps: Let me get this straight -- Swap out an at-best average starting goalie for an above-average one at 1.5 mil AND get a 1st and a 2nd to boot?? WTF??

Best switcheroo in the cap era by a (frank)ing mile.

I'll take the Horton for #6 deal over that, and the Stewart to St. Louis deal over that too

how about the phiL deal.....could turn out to be one of the biggest landslides ever

Friggin Cooke.

Time to Bertuzzi that guy. Eye for an eye.

2 wrongs don't make a right, but I'm willing to make an exception in this case.

We could be set for a decade.....and they get a lazy one dimensional headcase without a 3 piece set.

We win

All great deals ... The Caps' most recent deal included ... Hard to say one is better than the other though.

and no to all the "let's pick up the old forward" bullpoop
we draft people for a reason and when they are ready to step up they need to be given a real chance, especially in a cap world
would you have rather had (frank)ing arnott or marchand for all of last year?

caron is ready, let the (frank)er play and who knows who else might step up in camp
you can always tweak later on in the year and at the deadline if need be...no reason to pull the opportunity from under the kids from day 1

I want 1 more forward, and 1 more D while it just cost us cash, not additional resources.

Understand all that and have been saying it for years and BUT B's are Cup Champs now ( they are mother(frank)ing CUP champions, from ear to ear as I type, incredible!!!) and while yes, of course any idiot would rather have Marchand over Arnott for all of last year and yes hopefully Caron or Spooner could come in and be Marchandesque it could be a stretch for any of them to repeat what this freak did in the mother(frank)ing playoffs cause MAKE NO MISTAKE it's all about the playoffs. Playoff goals, playoff GWG, playoff game tying goals, shorthanded goals, and feeding these mother(frank)ng goals under (frank)ing pressure.

Now let us break it down a bit and ID the B's top playoff performers for the last three years shall we:

Krejci – 45GP 18G-21A-39P
Bergeron – 47GP 10G-26A-36P
Ryder – 49GP 17G-18A-35P
Lucic – 48GP 13G-17A-30P
Recchi – 49GP 14G-16A-30P

Now the B's are in great shape as Horton and Marchand have proven to be money in the playoffs as well. Kelly and Peverly have provided crucial secondary scoring. Who knows how long it will take for Seguin to emerge as a force.

Recchi is riding into the sunset as he should on top what a (frank)ing warrior and his impact will be felt on many for years e.g. Marchand old man look at my game I'm a lot like you were BUT was mother(frank)ing key to the run and Marchand's success. Agree that bringing another 40yo on board is certainly not the answer just saying he was vital and him gone leaves a void for others to fill and many will starting with Bergeron. HOFer Recchi Thank You.

Guess my point (I think I have one) is Ryder gone leaves another playoff clutchness void and I'm a bit perplexed about that. Guy just turned 31 and was inked for 2y 3.5 per. Great signing by Dallas - sure beats Cole 4y 4+ - for a proven PLAYOFF DIFFERENCE MAKER. Yes (frank)ing cap world yada yada and understand that cup winning rosters can't stay intact but with Savard off the books that contract (maybe less $ even with Cup/staying put) seemed feasable/matchable. All I'm saying is Ryder's playoff prowess will be missed - thanks for the clutchness cod, that is how I will remember you - which leaves another big gap to fill. One gap fine. Two? Tall order to repeat which is the goal. Who would you rather have for a sorely needed clutch playoff goal in 2012, Ryder or Spooner? You never know one of these kids can really step up and we've seen some good things thus far but this situation sorta reminds me of a playoffs version of the B's only being able to truly right the O ship after Kessel's departure once his gap was finally filled by Horton a full year later.

Bah, just wanted to acknowledge the departure of guys who had a big part in making it happen.

point is, any potential missing pieces on this team don't need to filled in july
let's see where we stand in nov/dec before overpaying someone now when it's potentially not even needed

for the $$ and term, the only one i would have wanted is souray

Point is Ryder's clutchness was needed to win and the contract was not the big payday everybody was thinking it would be. And (frank) Souray! Gimme Widamin before that I'm going on 47 can't skate backwards WASHED UP injury waiting to happen.

The 25 only games that count jackass. Did you not witness the run? The three last playoff years?

Proven playoff commodity any team aspiring to the Cup makes good on a 2y 3.5 deal, including those who had him and want to repeat.

Souray.

I think letting Ryder go and picking up Pouliot is somewhat of a political move and a favor to Ryder. Gives the young guys a chance to prove themselves and if they step up and show they can fill shoes then it's a whole lot easier to kick Pouliot to the curb. If they can't then we have some talent insurance there.

Would've been very hard with 73 around to justify minutes for the up-and-comers.

I'm glad Stan Lee is back

Great points, but agree with Toad on this one ... get the "clutch" guys via trade before the playoffs (Kelly, Peverley) if necessary, and let the young guys that have earned the chance to show what they've got do just that ... Nobody is going to want to (frank)ing sign here if we never make spots available for prospects. And we've got a DEEP talent pool right now....

Don't overpay now ... Start the kids and adjust when the market has cooled off.

Was baffled and mad at this move at first, but then started thinking about it and it's a win/win. 1 year ... Gives Pouilot the chance to emerge into what he was scouted out to be, and if not, adios.

Tough for the brain to keep up with that Harvard education every now and again when he pulls sh!t like this
