"Tappen skates away In what’s probably the worst-kept secret in Boston sports media, Kathryn Tappen is leaving NESN to join the NHL Network. She formally informed her bosses at NESN of her decision last week.

The anchor on Bruins pregame and postgame coverage since her arrival in 2006, Tappen will be difficult to replace, particularly given NESN’s struggles to find top-notch on-air talent the past few years.

Unfailingly referred to by colleagues as one of the nicest and hardest-working members of the Boston media, Tappen made herself into a trustworthy, knowledgeable hockey host. But it wasn’t a natural gig for her; she admitted during a fill-in hosting stint on WEEI’s “Dennis & Callahan’’ last week that she didn’t know much about hockey when she got the job at NESN.

No truth, by the way, to the rumors that it was the first time in the history of sports radio that a host admitted he or she didn’t know something."

she got a lot better as time went on, congrats to her

So what's everyone's guess on the UTE extension?

With Bergy at 5 per, I'd guess UTE will probably come in at between 5 and 5.5 per ...

4-5 years would be nice ....

I think his agent will ask for 3 years at 5 mil and Chiarelli will accept. This way he becomes a ufa after the 3 years and he's in the prime of his career and he can really cash in then. It's still a good deal to both parties, at that time Seguin will probably take his spot as the #1 center.

"I'm not a huge Tommy Cross fan."

I agree with that assessment.

Sounds like we have a lot of solid top 6 forwards and 2nd pair defensemen.....but not a lot of clear cut top 3 forwards according to this report.

Nathan Horton Stanley Cup update: It wasn’t airline’s fault after all; parade goes on without it

When last we checked in regarding Nathan Horton‘s disappointing, abbreviated day with the Stanley Cup, it seemed like it was another example of airlines messing everything up. While their goodwill should run out approximately five seconds following the next time they charge passengers $25 to check a bag, let’s give Jet Blue and their brethren a break for at least one day: it turns out that the chalice’s delayed route to Dunnville, Ontario wasn’t their fault.

WEEI updated the story recently, revealing that the Cup simply wasn’t checked in on time and so it didn’t make it on an 8 a.m. flight as originally planned (forcing the Cup to travel later than expected).

Because of this delay, the Cup arrived five hours late so Horton was forced to attend the parade without the Cup in hand. That created an embarrassing moment for Horton, who tried his best to celebrate in front of a crowd of 6,000 people anyway.

“I’m kind of embarrassed it’s not here,” said Horton, addressing the crowd. “But we’ll do our best to get it here so you can take pictures.” When he landed in Buffalo earlier Sunday, the Cup — which was supposed to have been on the flight — wasn’t there.

(snip)

“I’m not 100 per cent certain, but I think it was because (the Cup handler) was late (to the airport),” said Tammy Horton, Nathan’s wife. “It may have been an error by the airline. But it sucks because we can’t extend a day with the Cup. Everybody gets a day. It was supposed to be 9 a.m. until midnight.

“Hopefully (the crowd) isn’t mad the Cup’s late.”

The sad part is that it’s unlikely that Horton will receive any kind of “do-over” with the Cup. It’s next destination is the Czech Republic – not exactly a stone’s throw from Ontario. WEEI provides the Cup’s schedule; we’ll begin with its first stop after Horton completes his run with the Cup today.

Tomas Kaberle: Kladno, Czech Republic
David Krejci: Sternberk, Czech Republic
Zdeno Chara: Trencin, Slovakia
Tuukka Rask: Savonlinna, Finland
Shawn Thornton: Oshawa, Ontario
Daniel Paille: Welland, Ontario
Rich Peverley: Guelph, Ontario
Gregory Campbell: Tillsonburg, Ontario
Tyler Seguin: Brampton, Ontario
Marc Savard: Peterborough, Ontario
Chris Kelly: Ottawa, Ontario
Patrice Bergeron: Quebec City, Quebec
Mark Recchi: Kamloops, British Columbia
Milan Lucic: Vancouver, British Columbia
Shane Hnidy: Neepawa, Manitoba
Johnny Boychuk: Edmonton, Alberta
Adam McQuaid: Prince Edward Island
Brad Marchand: Nova Scotia
Michael Ryder: Newfoundland
Tim Thomas: Flint, Mich.

(If you really want to follow its every move, The Canadian Press provides a little more detail as far as when it will be in those places.)

Considering the bumpy road Horton took to earn his first-ever Cup, I’d imagine that the people of Dunnville will give him the benefit of the doubt. They might not be too pleased with whomever was actually at fault for the mistake, though. (If they ever find out.)

(frank) Phil. He was the biggest douce of the three by a country mile because he got a big head after one good year. Put himself before the team and what we were building.

Congrats on your inflated contract Phil. We'll take the Cup.

Bruins sign Knight, Spooner

New England Hockey Journal has learned that forwards Jared Knight and Ryan Spooner have agreed to terms with the Boston Bruins.

The two reportedly are under standard entry level deals (two-way) for three years at or near the rookie maximum of $900k. Bonus structure and details are not yet available.

Knight, 19 was the 32nd overall selection in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft after scoring 36 goals for the London Knights of the OHL. He was selected with the second-rounder acquired from Toronto in the Phil Kessel deal. Knight tallied 25 goals and a career-best 70 points in 2010-11 to lead his team in scoring

Spooner, 19, was chosen with Boston’s second-round pick, 45th overall in the same draft. The diminutive but highly skilled center fell in the draft largely because he missed most of the 2009-10 season’s second half with a fractured collarbone. Last season, he scored a career high 35 goals and 81 points with the Peterborough Petes and Kingston Frontenacs.

We will have more on the signings later as we confirm details.

Formality.

Neither guy is eligible for Providence this season so really no rush on the contracts, but I bet Chiarelli has the same feeling that I do: Both of these guys could push for a roster spot, particularly Spooner.

I'm back

Lesson learned......what was the lesson again?

That the childish Vancouver mods act exactly like the Vancouver players?

No rules were broken, yet, I was banned for a month. That's ok, we won the cup and they got shut out in game 7 while each one of the sisters went -4 in a championship game.
