it's a tough call and the rules have changed
i guess when you are as outspoken as he was you might be held to a slightly higher standard

I'd like to think his comments after that incident had nothing to do with the punishment in this case. And I don't compare the two hits. I have no problem with him getting suspended here, despite the obvious lack of intent to injure. It's a hit that the game wants to eliminate. I just think 3 games is too many. |

without the nose he could have gone to the movies and not irritated those around him due to his breathing issues |

I realize this is aside from your point, but:
Why is it that in this case there's an obvious lack of intent, when all we heard after the Chara incident was that intent was clear? (Note that I can't remember your stance on it - but in general it seemed like it was obvious to the standard Habs supporter that Z had ill intentions)
Given the intense and drawn out criticism that Chara, the Bruins, and their fans faced, its hard for us to separate these two incidents. Both were dangerous hits during the course of play, the difference being severity of the injuries. I see no less intent with Max going shoulder to chin on a vulnerable player than I do with Z riding Max out of the play. In fact I'd argue that Max's play seems like the more likely to cause serious damage.
Again, I realize that's not your point, but just trying to explain why discussing this incident on a Bruins thread is inevitably going to be related to the Chara hit. |

The simple truth is, you are B's fans and we are Habs fans and so despite what we'd like to think, we have a built in bias that cannot be discounted, nor should it be. I can look at the Chara hit and not think he intended the result, just as Patch didn't intend the result of his hit. The only issue there, was that the two players had a history, and I think that's why it blew up as it did. I mean, it would still have blown up, but not the same way. |

Totally agree.
Out of curiosity what do you think the reaction would have been if the Letang/Max ordeal had been Lucic on Pacioretty? Or Lucic on anyone for that matter. I suspect the hockey world (not just Habs fans) would be clamouring for his head on a platter.

Lucic has a reputation, though I am not sure why. I mean, he's tough and he's good, so I guess that is why. But he really isn't dirty on a consistent basis. The hit on Miller comes to mind, but that one is open to interpretation IMO.
Bottom line - I hate Lucic. |
