Its gonnna be the longest 4 months of an off season ever.
Good news is now we dont have to argue about Carter and Richards everyday - jak521

No, but he's a number one center with a history of winning, and also a good two way player, excellent PK guy, plays 20 mintes a night in a multitude of roles and widely seen by the hockey world as more important than Carter to the team's success.
He also has a better playoff track record than Carter does, injuries or not - Jsaquella
But for Richards you got guys who sound like they play a team game and play every night.
For Carter they got a guy who plays when he wants (from what I have heard and read). If they were looking to change the culture then why bring back a guy who has a questionable work ethic?

The Richards trade is all about Schenn. If he reaches his potential, which is a big IF, the Flyers will have done extremely well. Simmonds is a nice addition to the trade. 16 goals and 24 assists 2 years ago, is nice production from a third line player. - PLindbergh31
It absolutely is. Brayden Schenn will hopefully join Giroux and JvR as the core moving forward |

I have heard as many guys praise Vorcek as rip him. His former coach from juniors loved his work ethic. It could be as simple as needing a change of scenery. My biggest concern is Voracek conditioning, and that is something that can be addressed. |

Peter Lavy will take care of that. Plus he has a good group of veterans to be on his butt. |

Snider could of not signed off on any of these trades but he did. Now they have to look to the draft, trades, and UFA to finish this project off. - stveshdy
Exactly. He trusts his GM. |

Well, Laviolette and those vets seemed to not take care of that with other guys in the past. There are questions about Voracek, not saying that he's a lock to be a 60 point guy with 25 goals.
At the end of the day the player has to want it. I know coming into the NHL, his work ethic was considered a plus. Could it have flagged because of issues in Columbus? Who knows?
I think he could be a good player. Same with Schenn and Simmonds. They could also not work out. |

The returns were similar. Voracek was the 7th pick of the draft just 4 years ago. They got the 8th overall pick in this draft. Simmonds is a guy who is coming off a year where he took a step back as well, and he was never as highly regarded as Voracek was in his draft year.
Schenn, for all his promise has played 9 NHL games and had 2 assists. Vorcek had had 50 point seasons.
Both trades depend a lot on these guys reaching their potential. - Jsaquella
simmonds has intangibles like Richards does and he's shown him at the NHL level. schenn is the top rated prospect by THN. maybe Jake will end up like JVR and start to emerge this yr, but considering that howsom has been working w/ homer on this deal for mos, I'm still surprised- no, stunned- that the compensation wasn't better. 35-40 goal guys w/ that kind of size, that play 200 ft, are hard to find. |

I don't get the Voracek ripping. He's had a 50 point season at the age of 20 yrs old playing for a bad team. What do people expect a 19 yr old to come to Columbus and be a 40 goal scorer right off the bat?
The fact Voracek had a 50 point season so early in his career playing with less than stellar talent means this kid can be very good. |

It's not overblown... at all. Thats the main reason we traded him? Because he was out partying too much, and didn't get along with Pronger, or our coach? - FLYERSROCK!
I'm sure the so called partying had nothing to do with it. He was NEVER seen out drunk. He was NEVER exposed as disorderly or out all night. He was photographed holding a sealed whiskey bottle. and pictured with girls. Hmmm. He's a single millionaire. I'm stunned. |

I am hopeful but I am also alittle apprehensive.
The Flyers needed to add size and grit, they did that yesterday.
I want nothing more then Voracek to turn into a 35+ goal winger.

I haven't seen a response from Carter yet. He's probably three across the bed right now without a care in the world. |

I'd still really like to see Leino signed.
Man was I wrong about the Carter Richie deals. I didn't want to believe. I'm over it now and looking forward to seeing Schenn and Voracek develop watching the likes of JvR, Briere, Giroux, Pronger and hopefully Leino. |

If the reports about Leino wanting 4 million per, I would walk away from that if I was Holmgren. I like Laich, and Cole a lot. |

Not ripping Voracek, just asking, questioning him.
My concerns come from others who are closer to him or cover the sport. I am the first to admit I know next to nothing about him.

Voracek has shown an ability to be a 50 point player in the NHL. Simmonds has intangibles, sure, but so does Voracek. Seems as if you're dismissing what he's done and what people who know him have said. |

Unless some other big deal is made, that might be about the best we could hope for. But boy do we look small down the middle. Matching up with teams like the Pens just got a lot tougher. - BringBack25
We didn't change that much from last year down the middle... Betts, Breire, Giroux were our primary centers last year, along with Richards. Schenn is 6'1" 190 lbs, which is 2" taller and 5 lbs lighter than Richards and Schenn at 19 should put on a few more lbs. We lost Carter in the middle, but he isn't that strong or tough. He's more of a finesse player.
If you look at the trades it total... We got a lot bigger. Simmonds, Vorecak, Schenn are all listed above 6'2" and around 200 lbs. Carter is only 6'3" 200 lbs, but plays like 175 lbs. Plus, my guess is that the #8 pick (or #3 if trade up) won't be a light weight.
Next year may be iffy... These guys are going to need to develop at bit more. But, provided these new guys continue to progress, we just got a whole lot better in the long run. Vorecak got upside, # project to be similar to Carters (at his age). I don't think he'll max out that projection, but if he lands somewhere in between where he is now and Carter, I'd be happy. Schenn could fill into Richards shoes. And, we get Simmonds as a bonus - a prefect fit for the 3rd line. It might be interesting to see a 3rd line with Simmonds and Carcillo (if we sign) on the wings.
Not, to mention the pick - that could be better than them all. |
