On the trades? I think that Columbus and LA got better yesterday, while in the short term the Flyers don't look like a Cup contender right now.
- MJL

While these moves certainly put the flyers back a step in the short term, I don't think they aren't contenders anymore. I think there's a bigger question mar and it all depends what homer does at the draft and FA.

If Hamilton is there at 8, I better see Holmgren SPRINTING to the table to get the pick in.
- Jsaquella

Maybe Beaulieu is there at # 8. I think the Flyers are definitely going to go with a dman. I just pray they don't take Ryan Murphy.

Murphy has some high upside, but he's really small for a dman. I'm not sure how he would hold up in the NHL.

he was an All Star at the Memorial Cup over Despres

His Dad would likely interfere though and pressure Holmgren

Just saw a 3 minute clip of him on NHL network, this kid looks like a stud. Of course he's not going to be there at # 8

I have seen him play once. Obviously not a big deal, but he's big, mobile, and a right handed shot. What's not to love?

I think there are more moves coming. And i'll reevaluate when the moves are done. But they are moves that I wouldn't have done.

Let's hope so.

I think Carter is a good hockey player and a #1 center in this league.

When you trade a #1 center you need to get more then a solid kid and a first round pick.

- ggunky

Carter's is probably a #1 center. His size, wristshot, defensive ability, face-off wins... All put him in the #1 slot. However, he does have some flaws... inconsistancy, playmaking ability is average at best, he's got size but rarely uses it, doesn't seem to be willing to head to the rough areas of the ice, sure he scores a lot - but for all the shots he takes it's just statistics that he's going to score (his goal % per shot is not above average).

I think Carter was moved mainly because his style (pro's versus con's) didn't match with Lav's system. Voracek seems to be a very similar player, only a winger and better at playmaking.

I checked Voracek's Talent Analysis from a few years back on HockeyFuture.com... You could almost substitute Carters name - except the puck handling part.
Voracek is an explosive skater, with dynamic offensive ability. He is extremely strong on the puck and has great vision. He has a very good shot, but prefers the role of a setting up his line mates. An outstanding puck distributor, Voracek sees the ice very well and passes the puck to an open man with an incredible speed and accuracy. Has a very strong defensive presence as well. Is very close to the full package, and has the work ethic and joy of the game to continue improving.

i don't know that they're a step back, and it seems that bryz is getting lost in all of this.

They are just waiting for him to call in, could be in a minute, could be 20. If they mention that he's about to be on I will update.

In order to get it done, he would most likely have to trade up. I dont think he gets passed Ottawa at # 6

I think anytime you lose your top to players for youth you take a step back. That doesn't mean they can't be better than they were and I hope they are. And you're right, the goalie situation really makes all of this possible. It's much easier to transition your forwards with a solid goalie.

I think Giroux will have a monster year with now having the green light to pretty much lead the team for years to come. JVR as well. I'm really excited.
