I like you. Richards is a very good player when his mind is focused on hockey. He will be good for you, and i'm happy that he got traded there, because I really like the Kings! - FLYERSROCK!
What do you mean when his mind is focused on hockey? Does he take shifts/games off?
As a Kings fan I'm thrilled that Richards was acquired today. Dean loves character players and he should fit in well with Anze, Brown, and Williams. I think Flyer fans will like Simmonds, although he struggled at times this season but played well in the SJ series. Last year he fought anyone who took a run at one of our players and he was a fan favorite. Kyle Clifford took over that role more or less this year. As for Schenn, we barely got to see Him play with the Kings and their handling of him was puzzling at times. I know Burke covets him and the Hockey News ranked him the best overall prospect. The Kings have a young center in Loktionov who they like a lot also and Kopitar is obviously young so maybe they thought it was okay to deal Schenn.
I am THRILLED Bryzgalov is out of our division. He was a maniac against us for years. Not sure what happened in the playoffs the last couple of years but did anyone think Phoenix would beat the Wings?
Kudos to the Flyers for making things so interesting today. I give them credit for always trying to make the team better. This is just the first of many moves they'll make I'm sure.
Stunning day, seeing both Carter and Richards traded. I think that all factors were considered in making these deals, both on ice and off, and that both deals, in strictly hockey terms, were fair.
I do feel that short term, at least on paper, the Flyers aren't as good. However, guys like Schenn and Simmonds have reps as being hard to play against. With the number of guys trying to prove themselves the team is almost sure to be hard to play against, if not as talented overall. - Jsaquella
Pretty sure the Coyotes will miss the playoffs without Bryz. He should have a big impact for your team.
But it may take 20-40 games before the chemisty set in considering that there will be many new faces.
Also, a few ? : will Pronger be healthy, can Voracek pick it up, does Simmonds bounce back from a poor season and can Schenn have an impact right away? +, what happens with Leino? Alose, the 8th overall pick could play for you in 2011-2012.
I think you will have a great team, but it could take a while. And it will be different from the one you used to have.
I agree with Bill that lost in all this was that the Flyers actually have Bryzgalov now. Everyone wanted more toughness and a number one goalie going into the offseason. Well... Like the way we got it or not. This team finally has a pure number one goalie and a team, that on paper, is a lot tougher.

I was never crazy about him. The Flyers paid way too much for his services.

No. Bunch of overblown bs. Some guys here think that if a guy has sex or a beer he clearly isn't working hard enough. He had a rough year this year, which once the wrist injury was revealed made the season he had more understandable.

Sorry, but an approximately $5 mil cap hit for a top goalie is run of the mill these days, in my opinion. If you mean paid too much by paying him too many years, then you could say the same thing about Richards and Carter. Those long years are only meant to keep the cap hit down.

Uhh let's just say he likes to party... alot... that's why we sort of traded him. He's probably the best PK in the league though. He's a damn good player. He plays hard and good consistently though. When he shows up, HE SHOWS UP. I hated that they traded him, but we got Schenn & Simmonds back so i'm not really complaining.

Simmonds did not have a "poor" season. He scored two goals less than the previous season. Even though it was his third season, I felt that he was going through a sophomore jinx type of deal. He played hard every game and fought when needed. 14 goals for a 21 year old on the third line who fought anybody when needed is not a poor season by any means.

richards can go party on some other team we're here to win

You may be correct that the Flyers paid a lot for him. His stats at Staples Center are astonishing. GAA around 1.something. I'm glad the Coyotes have LaBarbera in net now. Quick is the best goalie in our division.

It's not overblown... at all. Thats the main reason we traded him? Because he was out partying too much, and didn't get along with Pronger, or our coach?
Bill was there a reason you left Defenseman Ryan Murphy out of the mix for the Flyers pick. I was hoping the flyers would take a good look at him at #8 if he was available.
I'd say he's one of the riskier picks in the top 10. But I also think he has one of the highest ceilings in the draft.

If I'm correct, Richards' contract will end when he's in his mid thirties. Briz is 31 years old and signed for nine years??? That's just crazy. And yes, $5 million for an "unproven" goalie is overpaying. I saw him multiple times per year. He thrives in a quiet, no pressure environment, and even then, choked when it mattered most. I can only imagine the pressure he will have as a Flyer in a real hockey town. Sorry man, but he's overrated and overpaid.

No, they traded him because they got a very good return
