Not to mention faceoffs... talk about compounding a problem.
If they can use that 8th-pick and grab a guy like Courturier, who might drop a few spots, and is comparative to a Jared Staal, they could really mitigate the loss of Carter in the future. - Tomahawk
the 8th plus versteeg will not get the 3rd overall pick - BDizzlez
Why? You have a 20 goal proven scorer, plus an 8th pick that can be used to garner another solid prospect. Additionally, you have Florida who needs to add cap to get to the floor.
Love the trades. Flyers were already lacking veterans up front and they just got even younger at foward which is NEVER a bad move, but they still need to sign a veteran free agent or two up front. Hopefully they can re-sign Leino, and bring in a guy like Andrew Brunette, Jussi Jokinen, Eric Cole etc.. And I still think they should trade Versteeg, but only If they re-sign Leino.

Yeah, Versteeg and the 8th would definitely be worth it for Florida.
I have a feeling that's what will happen. Otherwise Versteeg would've been gone today as well.
Unless the Flyers make a significant move during free agency, I see what they have done as nothing but a lose, lose situation.
Making room for a goalie the has very little playoff experience, and thus being unsuccessful, It makes me wonder why they would trade away a 40+ goal scorer and the teams heart and soul in Richards.
Im seriously confused, Brysgalov better have the best years of his life ahead of him or these trades are going to look like some of the worst in history IMHO.
Not too mention they need Giroux to duplicate last years production, His first year of star status, which is never easy the second time around. And the very talented but underachieving James VanRiemsdyk needs to pulll up his pants and produce alot more.
Other than that, You've put the hopes of you team on Wayne simmonds a Solid third liner with limited scoring touch, and Hoping the Brayden Schenn is some sort of miracle child that will take you to the promise land.
Carter is one thing, But both I think is ridiculous.

If they need to get cap they can easily bring in contracts for next to nothing. Ballard, souray, rolston, redden, free agents etc. They won't give up a possible future superstar for versteeg. Philly would have to throw something else into the deal.
Wow......just got up as I'm in the Middle East working, I'm SHOCKED
I had a suspicion Richards would be traded....but both!!! Flyers are my second favorite team and have been for 30 years, they're now small down the middle with Briere and Giroux. maybe they're gonna go the Red Wings/Canucks style and be a puck possession team? Not sure Homer is finished yet, one things for sure. It's never dull in Philly.

First off, none of the players are projected to be super stars...ala Crosby, Ovie, etc. Second, they still have the 8th overall pick, which net them a very solid prospect. Third, all the players you just mentioned are old and Versteeg has more upside to his play and has youth on his side. If you want anymore, you're crazy.

Yeah, if anything the Flyers should get a late round pick along with the 3rd overall. Versteeg and the 8th is a steal for a young, low cap team in my opinion.
Whatever. Ill come back on this blog and just say I told you so when there is no trade of versteeg+8th for 3rd - BDizzlez
Where's your magic crystal ball of clairvoyance? I want a look because I would have said there's no way in hell they trade Jeff Carter AND Mike Richards. Anything can happen, and this isn't that far of a stretch.

Sorry, thats not a realistic proposal at all.
Versteeg is an average 2nd, above average third liner. He's definitely worth his salary. I'm all for keeping him at this point.
I dont think he should be shopped. But if Tallon wan'ts him back that bad and is willing to move down in the draft, it can be done. But I think moving up those 5 valuable spots is worth more then Versteeg.
I can see Versteeg getting traded for one of Floridas many 2nd round picks . But I dont think he's apart of a deal to move up to 3.
People hear the Landeskog/Richards comparison, and with the acquistion of this pick, they automatically assume theres a way that they can use an asset (Carle/Steeg) to move up that high to get him. When really, its not all that realistic.
This is probably the worst day for me to be saying ANY of this , but I stand by this. Steeg is not worth moving up that high. But I think theres a deal to be made there.
I consider it a lateral move though. If we trade Steeg, were just gonna have to sign a similar player to play in the top nine in FA. It helps us add a pick, but who knows. Well see.
EDIT: And to clear up the cap thing, the player that Florida would draft would likely get an NHL entry level contract right away. If its Landeskog, he makes the team, and that counts against the cap. There is no bonus cushion.
