True, although I don't want Konopka. It's the size on the top two lines that worry me. Both centers combined might weigh less than Malkin. - BringBack25
That is true. Schenn isn't huge, but he's physical

Idk, just a 2nd and a 3rd plus a career 4th liner every ref in the league hates for a 1st doesn't make sense to me.
Whereas practically giving the Panthers a young, 20 goal guy to move up only 5 spots and shed cap seems a lot more practical for both sides. - hereticpride
Its not just 5 spots. Its moving into the top 3 in the draft.
If you said moving from 30 to 25, or even 15 to 10, MAYBE. But this is for a top 3 pick in the draft. Sorry, its not enough.
Again, the Ottawa deal was a hypothetical. Its more about just acquiring another, lower first to package with Steeg.
And how does it work for both sides? Tallon could draft Landeskog and he could outscore Versteeg as a rookie. He clearly projects to be a much more valuable player then Versteeg during his career, so why would Tallon do any of that, just for "20 goals"? He can get his 20 goals from his future captain that he plans to draft, for the same cap hit.
Plus, Tallon also wants to move up. The guy is freakin in love with RNH. Your gonna have to convince the hell out of him to move down. He is one of the smartest hockey individuals on the planet. He's not retarded.
You're trading 2 1st round picks and Versteeg for the 3rd overall? That's ludicrous, why in the hell would you pay that much? - flyers20032002
Your getting a 1st back. Your really only swapping firsts.
Your essentially trading an almost 2nd round pick and an above average third liner so that you can draft Landeskog (a future captain, 2nd line version of Iginla) instead of drafting Ryan Strome, who also has potential, but many more question marks.

My DREAM fourth line is.....
Hall-Betts-Powe
Sign Konopka if hes ok with being a 13th forward for parts of the year. Play him when Betts (frank)s up his shoulder again.
He's a prototypical flyer. Good defensive player. Excellent at faceoffs.
But he might be a little overhyped. Not amazing at anything else. Guys that don't like Jody Shelley probably wont be huge fans of Konopka, who dont get me wrong, is in ever way better then Shelley. But if he ever scores 10 goals in his career, Ill be amazed.
honestly might be the best blog i've read on this site.. and its basically a breaking news piece, being the same day and all. covers every possible angle of a truly crazy day. well done sir. - Crimsoninja
There are other options. If they trade Bobrovsky, and don't have to pay through the nose for Simmonds and Voracek, they have a lot of wiggle room to add veterans for those key 3rd and 4th line roles - Jsaquella
I expect Homer to make a bigger move than just adding 3rd and 4th line players. The roster, in its current state, is behind last years squad imho. They need something else.

It could happen, but I doubt he lands anything massive. Guys like Simmonds and Voracek will be on the team, and not in 4th line roles, either.
I wouldn't be amazed if he added a more expensive defenseman, to help out if Pronger's out for any length of time.

Depth wise? Yes
Talent wise? No.
Expierence, yes.
Do the two correlate together? Of course. We'll see what else homer does.
In no way do I play Konopka over Betts. Guy is an absolute warrior in the Lappy mold. All about community work and stuff to.
But he is not at all a good hockey player.
Betts, when healthy, is as good a 4th line center that money can buy. - mochoson
They're not paying Konopka the $950K or so he'll command to play behind Betts, not when Konopka's a better faceoff guy and more physical. If Betts was fully healthy, there's no need for Konopka.
What a day man... Wake up at 1:35 pm, brush teeth, eat some "breakfast" turn on computer and go to hockeybuzz to see if there's anything new on the Bryz front and i see Richards and Carter traded as Ek's headline. Thought it was a really bad joke, or just an aweful nightmare.
One thing's for sure, it's never dull being a Flyers fan.

I would never ever pay Konopka 950K for his whole 9 points that he scores.
800k to bang bodies, win faceoffs, and play your ass off when called upon.
Betts can play wing to.
Nothing like having two competent faceoff men on the ice during a PK. Sure helps when your centerman gets kicked out of the circle.

Yeah, I'm not expecting B. Richards or Stamkos...those seem far-fetched at best. I think a guy like Brooks Laich or maybe even Cole, if the price is right, are more reasonable expectations.

Ill take either. I'll go longer term with Laich. Ill go shorter term with Cole. Either would help the team.
FWIW I think you guys raped the Jackets and did really well with LA. Might be tough for some of you to let go of Richards but IMO he's too self-serving to be the real leader he was meant to be and he's not that talented. Gioux's the deal and now there's more potential around him and the others.
They made a statement & it was that the new approach for the Flyers is to build from the goalie out. Carter trade everyone know, Richards is a surprise & will take a bit to deal with. Not know much about these new guys has me excited to see what the product on the ice will look like. Also very interested to see how the "team" now gets along.
Also we will see if the lack of heart and do or die spirit that has plagued this team since the Stevens era will be gone.

Lack of heart????? They came back from 3-0 down to Boston last year...I don't think this team lacked heart. They also tied game 6 late against buffalo, won in OT and then destroyed them in game 7 when it looked like they might not even make it out of that series.

This season as a whole the team lacked heart & fight back. The second half of last season not as much. But what do you think got Stevens fired?
I think the past few years that has been a major problem for them. Was it the leader, Richards, that will be seen. I liked Richards, but if there were issues & this team is better with him gone that's all that matters.
