It's a cautionary tale for anyone who is negotiating with the Flyers in future. There is absolutely no reason for Giroux or JVR to give up even one moment of free agency in their next deal. They should hold the Flyers feet to the fire. On their RFA year, they should sign just to their UFA year so they get the max they can. No cap friendly stretched out deals to stay here, because someone who is younger and talented will be the next guy to make you expendable. - bodiva88

To me, that is the worst part of this. Those guys were not treated that well in this whole thing. - Jsaquella
You have to wonder if they were traded in part because of their long term deals.
Homer loses confidence that having these two tied up for 10+ years (to big cap hits) was the right thing to do. He makes the trades and gets out of his mistake.
Richards said yesterday he would have never signed the long term deal if they were going to trade him.
Carter certainly could have made more money testing the open market then the 5.2M he signed here. He sacrificed some money for the idea that Philly wanted him as a cornerstone of the team for his career.
They did get the shaft in this regard.
Players signing with the Flyers in the future will be aware of what went down yesterday. |

Yup. I was. I don't have it in me to be a douche to people who are polite. Only when people are douchenozzles do I whip the pad out. Or if they show flagrant disregard towards the law. |

Some good chapters for sure. Would love to read about some of the great stories involving Carl Lindros, that would be a must read. |

You guys are going to love Schenn, but more importantly, Simmonds. I was bummed when I found out the Kings traded Simmonds. He's an ultimate team player who ALWAYS comes to the aid of his teammates. He plays hard every shift, finishes his checks, gets into his opponents' face, solid skater, has good hands, and plays an honest game. I have no doubt that he will end up as one of the premiere true power forwards in the game. He will score 20+ goals next season along with 5-10 fighting majors.
Schenn plays with heart, grit, toughness, and excellent hands for a young dude. He'll even drop his gloves occasionally. I was hoping the Kings would dump some of their European prospects, but then I realized this is the Flyers we're talking about. You guys love freaking grit and toughness, as I do.
At the end of the day, the Flyers got the better of the trade, since I have no doubt both Simmonds and Schenn will be the heart and soul of the Flyers for many years to come
With that said, Richards does immediately give the Kings a lethal 1-2 punch down the middle behind Kopitar. I'm going to miss my man Simmonds. Honest, gritty, heart and soul player - RedwingsAreKHL
Just keep richie out of west hollywood ,...lol...If he thought philly was good for bars wait till he hits the strip. Not to mention the cali girls...hahaha.

Let's face it, money talks. The Flyers show them the money they will be shaking Homer's hand and thanking him. Of course, after they know the NTC clause is in the contract also, which is effective immediately. - Troxell88
In a lot of cases it can't be effective immediately.

The way these moves were handled, plus the Gagne deal last year is going to turn guys off. The Flyers have never been known to be Richards, for lack of a better word. |

I know this is a media real time world we live in with twitter, and all the social networks, but Richards said in an interview this morning he found out he was traded via a text message from the Hockey News.
I don't care how you slice it, that's weak sauce.
I understand he's an athlete and makes millions of dollars, but how would any of use who work regular 9-5 jobs like finding out we lost our job, or were transferred via text message? It would suck. - PLindbergh31

THey won't be 27, so it won't be. The point is, these two took contracts in which the Flyers did not show them the money (that they would have gotten if they'd signed shorter-term deals and gone free agent at the first opportunity).

Depends on if Larsson really wants to play on the other side of the pond for a couple more years.
A team looking for immediate help might waver a bit.
