Really? So did they do Briere, Kimmo, and Hartnell dirty also. I'm not defending the organization blindly, but let's not make it seem now that everybody would be leary of coming to Philly because of this. This team has always shown a win at all cost mentality (certainly made a lot of mistakes over the years) and pays top dollar.
I'm sad to Carter and Richards to go, but it is still a franchise players will want to go play for in the future. - Troxell88
I think players will still want to come here.
But they would be crazy to give up any UFA years, or sign for less then the market would bear for their services.
Carter made a real financial sacrifice to sign that deal, because he believed the team was committed to him for his career.
The team decides then that it wasn't working, he doesn't get another shot to renegotiate his UFA deal.

Overloaded offense. poop goaltending. On a team up against the cap. Moves are bound to happen in that scenario or it'd just be more of the same next year. - hereticpride
No such thing as overloaded offense. Goaltending was the only big weakness. I doubt it would have been more of the same with Bryzgalov on board.

I have a suspicion the Flyers won't stay at #8. Just a hunch. They might move up or down. That I'm not sure. The Flyers MO is to never stand pat. - PLindbergh31
Hopefully they pull the trigger to move to 3. If Florida is calling about bob I'm sure something could be hashed out |

I really hope it's not down. But then again i want Bob in O&B next year. - Yosimar89
My thought on this is mixed. If Bryz has a long term injury would be nice to have Bob to fall back on, in addition I think Bob is going to be a very good goaltender.
That being said, its hard keeping a backup goalie with close to a 2 million dollar cap hit. He's not going to be able to develop with Bryzgalov here.
I'm glad I'm not making the decision here, because I don't know what the answer is.

I'd like to know what factors led him to believe that the deals were mistakes. He may have made bigger mistakes yesterday. - MJL
I feel the same way as you.
I would have stayed the course for another season with Carter and Richards, and bring in a goalie.
I don't know what led Homer to first perceive these 2 players as the pillar franchises, and then sign them to 10+year deals, and then turn around and make those trades.
They are a lesser team right now.
If Schenn pans out like he should, well fine, but as of right now he is potential. |

Overloaded in the sense that we had tons of talent there for the almost total lack of it we had in goal. Unbalanced. |

Good points. I tend to believe there is more to this story that is known in the public. There almost has to be, the organization just doesn't get rid of cornerstone players for the hope of getting better with younger more unproven players, especially when you are playing in a big market like Philly.
I think at some level, Richards and Carter have some accountability in their trades yesterday. |
