So a rookie season at age 21 with:
41GP
24 wins, .920%, and a 2.56GAA
can't be considered good?
Real risky considering Dubnyk is 0 for 2 on season's capable of being considered good... - ehabs9
That's just half a season. Didn't he lose his job going into the playoffs? |

Eklund: Source: Canadiens May Have A Taker for Gomez Today. - Eklund
I don't see the Habs trading Gomez.. they are $5M+ under the cap and don't have a vet to take over his place in the line up.
So unless the Habs are taking back a big contract and/or some veteran center back (or in another transaction), Gomez is not going anywhere. |

I get confused with leaf fans.
On the one hand they say the only reason the habs have any success and are ahead of the leafs is "because of Price"
And when someone mentions him in a trade he is likely the next Raycroft.
So which is it? - thebigbird
Well, Raycroft had one good season too you know. Won the Calder. |

ok sorry lets try this again
ok guys lets play a game cuz im bored at work....
you pick two teams that didnt make the playoffs last year and we decide if you combine the two teams that they would make the playoffs this year.
first up..
edmonton and calgary
edit:ill just make a list...
panthers and leafs
ottawa and NJ
winnipeg and NYI
carolina and st. louis
minnesota and dallas
columbus and colorado - boltsfan48
As in take the best players from both teams to create a new team? In that case I think they would all make it. It would be interesting to created projected line combos though. |

you know what would be hilarious...
if toronto makes the playoffs this year and the habs dont.
we would never hear the end of it for the first 4 games of the playoffs till the leafs got swept by tampa in the 1 vs 8 matchup. |

No, that would be Huet who lost his job. 41Gp is far more than half a season, a lot of starting goalies do 50-60. Just because Price did 72 last year doesn't mean 41 is half a season. |

Oh you're right, he just flopped badly. But they let him keep his job till next season. My mistake. Sorry. |

So the habs success is dependent on a Raycroft esque type Goalie?
Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

wow to this thread.. u guys are crazy haha.
This is all on Gomez. First of all, if he would've stayed in NJ for less than the insane contract he got in NY, he wouldn't have as much pressure, he'd be playing with Patrik Elias and Brian Gionta (obviously just Gionta isn't enough), and he's have a lot more success than he's had since leaving NJ. I'd keep him for 27mil/6 years, a 4.5 cap hit.. which is decent, especially at the time of the deal, 4.5 was then what 5.5 is today. He was a good #1 center playing with Elias, but NY paid him like he was Pavel Datsyuk and he went for the money. Too bad.
Parise-Zajac-Palmieri
Elias-Gomez-Gionta
Tedenby-Josefson-Clarkson
would've been a pretty darn good lineup. Maybe a little small, but skilled and lots of depth. - MartysBetter88
I never really blame the player for taking the money.
If your boss says... hey, we are gonna give you a $20K raise. Would you say... Nah, I just think I will take $5K, thanks.

Well, we don't know that yet. We'll have to see this year if he goes back to the way he was the rest of his career. |

I'm just playing Devil's advocate here, because I think Rinne is a beast, but if Price has only had one 'good' season, than the same can really be said for Rinne.
I mean according to you anything under a .920 isn't 'good', and his 2 prior seasons at 52 and 58 games were really only half seasons so... |

I'd go with the Marlies. Better try something new than something that keeps failing.

Of course. I'm very fair about these things. Both goalies ;may have had their breakout season, or could be one hit wonders. But obviously Rinne was better last year, so overall, he's been better.
He also doesn't cry in post-game interviews. |

Rinne had a much better D corps... and statistically, the difference was not that great.
Fair enough to say Price needs to do it again, but I would not suggest that Rinne is a much better player than Price. |

volchenkov, tallinder, greene, fayne, salvador.......but if ya know the devils its more about the system then the players, how do you explain them being top 5 other than last year (9th even after terrible horrific abysmal start) and yes that includes without stevens, nieds etc.......
btw hows roloson doing? looked like he needed life support last time i saw him |

Well that doesn't make much sense...He was better last year yes, that doesn't mean he's been better overall. Price had better statics leading up to last year, but that doesn't come into play?
I don't think it's fair to say who's better until after at least this next season. |
