If by extending his career means playing in the AHL I think he could have done that without Markov. - Guimania

Mtls PP was pretty good the last 2 seasons without Markov. - trash
No doubt. But that's because of Spacek taking his place. |

If by wash you mean it's not even close as to who the better powerplay player is between them, then sure...
Markov by a country mile.
Don't believe me?
Ask Souray, Streit, Schneider, Brisebois, Bergeron or any other player he's made rich or helped extend their career.
Then add Subban. - EricEngels
agreed. Wiz doesn't make his teammates better like Markov does.

Homer? What does being a Homer have to do with anything?
You see, playing with Markov, made Streit a better player. Have you never heard of such a thing? Why is this a foreign concept for you? - hscesq
I think when people talk about players making others better there's usually proof of that once the player moves on. With Streit that proof isn't there and he's doing just fine without Markov on far worse team. Unless of course your argument is that he coached him or taught him how to play the game better. If that's the case there's no way to argue your point. |

My question is how do you know this? We can you say this like it's the gospel? |

That's fine. With him, it's even better. Not to mention our 5 on 5 play will be better with him. I'd be willing to say, there may not be another breakout pass D-man better then Markov in the NHL. His first pass to get out of the zone is always on the money. |

It's not that he coached him per se. Streit moved on, and what he learned from Markov made him a better player. |

An argument, based on the stats the last couple of years, can be made that it was Kovalev. |

Listen bud, you're so wrong this isn't even an argument, it's a lesson.
in the 20-odd games Schneider played with the Canadiens in their disastrous Centennial season, he was brought here purely to help the powerplay which suffered from the loss of Mark Streit's shot.
He had 15 points in 44 games with the Thrashers before coming to the Canadiens and scoring 17 points in 23 games. In a pairing with Markov, he scored 5 goals --all of them on the powerplay, and added 12 assists.
He was slated for retirement before he came to Montreal, coming off a 5+mil dollar contract.
In a conversation I had with him after the season, he said coming to Montreal bought him another season in the league, and he had Andrei Markov to thank for it.

How do I know? I watched Streit when he started with the Habs, and then when he was done with them. It's an opinion based on observation. |

If Streit didn't have the talent to do it own his own without Markov, then he would have flopped on the Island.
Markov may have helped his development in his final year but it hardly defined his career.

I'm guessing the conversation went something like this.
EE: Matt you had a great run when you came back to Montreal didn't you?
MS: Yes we really got on a roll there.
EE: What's it like playing with a great player like Markov?
MS: Well like you said he's a great player and is pleasure to play with.
My question is what did you expect him to say? Markov sucks and I did this all on my own? No. |

Sure we can. As Hab fans we know from watching what Markov does to other players. Just because you don't watch what the man does on the ice personally doesn't mean we don't know. Markov healthy, playing a full season is 60 pts in the bank while helping young guys like Yemelin & Subban improve. |
