i'm hopeful too. but i'd rather they addressed it early with a good prospect so i wouldn't have to feel hopeful. i'd rather feel confident.

all i know is i always got to feel good about the defensive backfield going all the way back before even andy was here and it felt good. it was always a strength of the team and an advantage. i hate having so so talent there.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The pick: Bryan Stork, center, Florida State

My take: The Patriots re-signed starting center Ryan Wendell to a two-year contract this offseason, but the sense all along was that competition was still likely to be added. It comes in the form of Stork, who at 6-foot-3 7/8 and 315 pounds brings a bigger body type to the position (Wendell is 6-2, 300). The Patriots have been vulnerable at times to inside pressure (think AFC championship game vs. Broncos), especially against bigger nose tackles, and Stork could ultimately be part of the solution. Stork's injury history caught my attention in pre-draft study, as he was graded a "4" in the durability category by Scouts Inc., but the Patriots are obviously comfortable with it.

Thinking from an opponent's perspective: What's the best way to get to Tom Brady? Straight up the middle, to move him off the spot. Attempting to upgrade the center spot potentially puts the Patriots in a better position to counter that.

For Bryce Brown, Eagles are getting back a conditional 4th-round pick in 2015 that can be a 3rd in 2016, per source.

even the pros are saying the eagles had 6 names and they all went pretty much right before the 22nd pick and they didn't know what to do when that happened.

i just know this could have been done better.

i wouldve been pissed if they took Smith if Pryor and Dix were still on the board, but they werent. the six guys they targeted were gone, so they were smart and traded down.

you are all about addressing needs. well they did that. with the small amount of pass rushers available Smith would have been snatched up very soon if they didnt take him. I bet the Cowboys wouldve grabbed him.

the explanations from the small handful of eagles draft apologists are laughable. their biggest need is in the defensive backfield.

the deal is they panicked when their targeted players came off the board and they didn't have a backup plan in place for if that happened. this left them with 10 minutes to figure out what they were going to do.

yes they have a need at DE but they have a more pressing need in the backfield. if this guy was going to address the need at DE this year i could at least have this conversation with you, but he won't. he's a project. when their targeted names came off the board before 22 they needed to take the best available CB or safety (of which there were many because it was the 2nd deepest position in the draft after WR's). there were more talented DBs available then the so called DE they picked and DB was the more pressing concern. DB's who could have stepped right in and been effective were still available.

the bottom line is they drafted a 3rd round project of a linebacker to play DE with their first round pick. you can come up with the best excuse in the world and it isn't a good excuse for that.

they had no semblance of a pass rush all year until Trent Cole started producing in the final few games. He is on his way out and NEEDED to be replaced.
This guy has experience in a 3/4 as an OLB.
bringing a consistent pass rush will probably do more to help your DBs over the course of the year than picking up some DB you werent really high on in the 1st round just to say you did it.
