I'll call it a tie. They can fight about it, but they have to break their wrists first, then fight. That's how you know who's the toughest.
- Big_Lightnin

I object. If broken wrists are had, the doctors will likely make them stay out of the line-up.

the first angle shows pretty clearly he lunged at him. He initially might not have been going after Grabo, but once he saw Grabo was there and had his head down, he gave it the old "accidental on purpose" collision.

pretty perfect shoulder check for a guy who "never saw him" as Neil suggests...

- Big_Lightnin

i dont know man, an argument can be made that grabo pretty much skated into him

i dont like neil at all, keep that in mind, but i am trying to keep a neutral mindset while watching it

holding out in Columbus and refusing to play in the AHL had a bit to do with that as well...
- Big_Lightnin

His attitude aside, he felt he was entitled to a more prominent role than his performance suggested. It was made even worse that he refused to acknowledge his shortcomings and make the best of an opportunity to improve. He'll be another Zherdev, good for about 25ish goals, 50ish points max.

Woah....Grabo isn't quite to the Tucker toughness level.
- Domaju

I didn't say that. haha

I was alluding to the fact that he (Big_Dion) is becoming well known as the #1 Grabovski supporter.

i posted the video and after re-watching it, i dont think there was any malice on neils part at all
- Dozzer

I think you see exactly what Neil hoped it would look like.

Neil lays a check here. Player doesn't have the puck. Interference. Hit was to the head. Suspension.

Pretty clear with the precedents Shanny has set so far.

dude, neil saw him 100%, he did a shift of his body to lean his shoulder into his head and clipped him, it was dirt.
- big_dion

he should of been given a penalty, man, i had to check to see he didnt get one.. i need to stop drinking whiskey on weeknights lol

thats why he was penalized, but that wasnt suspendable
- Dozzer

refs didnt see the hit - if i recall there was no penalty.

i actually have no idea how you cant see that as on purpose. IMO its blatently obvious neil goes out of his way to make contact with grabovski.

u only need to see a milisecond flash of a blue and white jersey and you know that person is there, trust me, ive played a ton of contact hockey and its easy to clip someone if you want and not get caught by the refs let alone make anyone think you didnt mean to catch the person off guard, not to mention it was contact to the head.

It was a head shot on a player without the puck, though.

And that's exactly the type of call Shanny has been coming down on hard. So what makes this one different?

I think most people would agree that it looked intentional. But again, I'd like to hear some reasoning from Shanahan as to why it isn't suspendable given everything else he's cracked down on.

Watch Neil's body preparation in for the hit in the first look they show at it. He's laying a hit. He's just not looking directly at him.

Neil's a hitter, like many others. He's spent a career learning to make hits like that look innocent, but he knew exactly where Grabo was. Yes, Grabo was skating towards him. Neil had a choice to avoid the hit or step into him - he stepped into him.

yeah i corrected myself lol ... i am having a bad day with my memory lol

i dont see it as suspendable, it should of been penalized.. but hell.. look at my track record today so i'm going to go with the fact my assessment is terribly wrong

its just the one angle showing neil from behind, it makes it look far less violent then the other camera

nope cause he sold it well - at game speed it looked like incidental contact.

last year I wouldn't have been saying it was suspendable. I'd be saying it should have been 2 mins for interference followed by a visit to Mr Orr's office...

But given the way Shanny has viewed hits like this, I think it's a 2 gamer.

Agreed. In an accidental collision, both players usually go down awkwardly. There is usually a split-second reaction to try to get out of the way or at least brace for impact to minimize the damage.

You don't "accidentally" lean your shoulder into the check and throw a perfectly timed knock-out blow.

concur.. shanny needs to define not only what is unacceptable, but what is acceptable as well

sal good bro!
its a tough one, no doubt, i just hate to see that kind of play, it was so unnecessary...props to Gbov for coming back out and setting up MAC with that beautiful pass/top corner shot.

I dunno about that, dood. He shifts his weight, last minute and his shoulder meets Grabby's chin.

Even his fall looked fake. It was like "Oh my God, I have hit something unexpectedly, oops, I just banked off another Leaf and now I'm spinning into my own player. What an accidental sequence of events, please don't suspend me, Mr. Shanahanman."
