Most people have already said intentional including Sens fans, |

If you mean 8 regular season games that would be way to much. If I am not mistaken that is what Wizneiski got and that situation was much different and Wiz has a suspension history. - thejet
I'm talking total with pre-season included. And I don't think that is too many with the other suspensions that have been given out. |

I've heard that line a lot, he didn't make it up. I think it's pretty funny - Conquest
Yeah I know, I was myself being lame, just never been a fan of the line name. |

I kind of hope they just suspend Neil for the first game of the season, because the second game is against Toronto and he has a date with Colton Orr - Zezel

not exactly true, but Orr is in a higher weight class and a tougher customer. Carkner is obviously his more natural partner. - thejet

i wasn't sticking up for him, and saying it wasn't a bad hit. i was simply pointing out the fact that it wasn't a "cut and dry" incident. it actually reminded a lot of the hit on crosby last year (although not nearly as hard), where it was just impossible to tell if it was deliberate, or just two players running into eachother. - sensarmy_11
Oh its cut and dry, took me a few watches but then I picked up on the little things.
A. When grabbo is 2-3 feet away neals toe points right towards him to line up better.
B. Neal lifts his shoulder long before he is going to get into contact with grabbo. |

Cut the BS. Orrs sole purpose is to fight and enforce. AKA a heavyweight. Neils a middleweight. He can chip in for some goals and play and contribute to the team. He's also capable of fighting and sticking up for teammates. Orr and Neil are not in the same league when it comes to fighting, so don't compare them as such.
EDIT: The Orr reference is made to an ealier post of yours, 2 posts up. |

He also does that thing where he goads a guy into a fight and the other guy drops his gloves and then Neil just skates away. It's smart because then the other guy gets a penalty and he doesn't and it benefits his team...but it hardly ups his standing in the "tough guy" crowd. |

orr was forcing him to fight tho he isint gonna drop his gloves then neil skate away like he is famous for making guys drop there gloves like he is a big guy about to fight then run away he was waiting for neil to drop his gloves so he wouldn't get a penalty just saying |

I am gonna have to agree to disagree. That fight was a war and it seems to me you are looking to pick anything out of it to make neil look like a p@ssy. |

Neil definitely should be suspected. Grabo didn't have the puck, wasn't looking, and it was a head shot. If that's not a suspension, it's a joke. |

Brendan Shanahan has kind of worked himself into a bit of a jam with his tough (perhaps over-the-top in some cases) suspensions.
Now the precedent is set that an illegal hit gets an automatic suspension - a severe one at that - and if he deviates from that benchmark at all, he will be slammed for inconsistency. He'll eventually be demonized even worse than Campbell... although Campbell did deserve the flak he took.
But if he continues to go with the 3-8 game route for every illegal hit, then people will get sick of it. Heck, I'm already getting sick of it and the season hasn't started yet.
With the way Shanny is calling it, there could very well be a suspension per day all season long. I understand deterrence, but there's also such a thing as desensitization. |
