I guess someone, like yourself, who's more knowledgeable about the current leafs roster could point out a number of former first rounders acquired through trade or free agency, that are on the current roster.
I think Steckel was a first rounder for Washington?? - Doppleganger
Kessel, Lupul, Gardiner, Komisarek, Steckel, Connolly, Phaneuf, Armstrong.
Kadri with the Marlies right now.
I just don't think it's that relevant. |

Well it goes to show that teams that often trade their first round picks, can still acquire players who were high picks through other means.

I guess. Pretty soon after draft, where a player was drafted becomes quickly irrelevant too though. |

This is by far one of the stupidest posts I've seen.
Who cares who is still on the roster from 18 years ago?
I know one thing, leafs didn't get a #1 overall pick like you did. |

Dude, have a beer and relax. I know you're upset that Seguin buried three in the rout last Saturday, but its just one game, the leafs will get over it and so should you.

I hear Dougie Hamilton was named OHL defenseman of the month.
http://bigbadblog.weei.co...-defenseman-of-the-month/
Also............
New England Hockey Journal has named Niagara Ice Dogs (OHL) defenseman Dougie Hamilton the Boston Bruins Prospect of the Month for October.
In 12 games, Hamilton scored 7 goals and added 13 helpers for 20 points, good enough to propel him into the top-10 for scoring in the OHL. In 14 games dating back to Sep. 29, Hamilton has 23 points for Niagara.
Boston’s first choice, 9th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft last June, Hamilton was acquired via Toronto with the final draft pick in the Phil Kessel deal. The 6-foot-4, 193-pound defenseman was the second blueliner taken in the draft class, five spots behind Adam Larsson.
Hamilton is the son of two Canadian Olympians (Doug, Sr.- rowing, Lynn- basketball) and his older brother, Freddie, is a teammate on the Ice Dogs and San Jose Sharks prospect. The younger Hamilton’s academic achievements earned him Scholastic Player of the Year honors.
We will have a more in-depth feature on Hamilton on the New England Hockey Journal website, so be sure to look for it early next week. |

Not a good point. Most AHL leading scoreres end up being career AHL players, not many are able to duplicate the actual scoring level at the NHL level.
I am biased when it comes to Hamilton. I believe Hamilton may grow into the top Dman taken in the last draft. People forget that Huberdeau, Strome and Hamilton are nearly a full year younger than some of the other players taken (Landeskog, Larsson, Couturier). |

According to the charter members of the LTP, anything that happens in the AHL does NOT matter in any way shape or form, in relationship to the future or the NHL.

They say that every year. That said, this year seems to be pretty loaded to me. There are a LOT of players I see when I look around, that are putting up big numbers at a younger age than normal. Some big ones this year..... Nathan Mackinnon next year. - prock
sean monahan too. 3rd in OHL scoring, 2 points behind yakupov. 2013 draft eligible. |

knew you were going to bring this up.
Your position was that an AHL team's success had tons to bear on its players' futures, and thus the NHL team's future. Not a terrible assertion in and of itself.
You ran in to some difficulty in my books when I suggested that team success didn't really have more to bear on a player's future than that player's individual achievement, and it fell on completely deaf ears.
Before you don't answer this, tell me I'm trying to prove things exclusively with stats, tell me to have a beer and relax, tell me to go get some sun, or change the subject completely, please consider not responding if it's not going to be constructive. |

he was talking about me, not considering 25/26 year olds doing well in the AHL as a sign of how awesome the team's future was.
What's funny is the same argument I used then with him and spazzy is the same one I can use now when spazz doesn't think Connolly doing well in the AHL is a good sign for his NHL future.
AGE. MATTERS. |

He was in that other thread last season when the Binghamton Senators were on their playoff run. Even when we suggested he look at production from young up and coming forwards, as opposed to a the whole team's success. |

Actually, I think you struggle to get it. I was simply disputing the original premise that assumed you could make a direct comparison between an AHL scorer and an OHL defender. The largest problem is that the AHL is notorious for swallowing great scorers who cannot duplicate the result in the NHL. But the larger problem of the attempted comparison is that Colborne is 42 months older than Hamilton.
So the issue for Colborne is whether he will ever make the NHL as a regular top six player. In the case of Hamilton, the horizon is far higher and the potential on his ceiling that suggests he may be a future superstar in the making. |
