I don't know, not a psychologist/psychiatrist... but if the doctors feel he's stable now- it's not exactly right to keep him locked away.

Canadian way is to arrest, put on trial in 7 years, declare mentally ill, commit for 6 months then give new identity and lifelong pension.

Yea, it sucks he died. But if the person did it because he was ill, and he's better now... isn't keeping him locked up making a bad situation worse?

The point of prisons/asylums is to reform people and turn them back into productive members of society, not keep them locked away forever, leeching the public's money.

i don't know anything about the case. i'd have to read up on it before i actually made any real decisions on how i feel about it.

i don't mind if they give him meds or treatment or whatevs but sorry he lost his privileges to walk around without supervision

Sad story all around, but no way in hell that guy was in any way sane when he chopped off the dudes head, stabbed him like 40 times, paraded around the bus with his head, ate parts of his face etc...

There are certain crimes, where yes you should throw the key away.

Through no fault of his own, though.

And if he's better now(and it is an if), don't you think it's wrong to keep him imprisoned? And if you have no intention of ever releasing him, why bother with treatment at all?

I can see the other side, don't get me wrong. What if he relapses, and kills more people? That's obviously the worst case scenario, and a pretty dire one at that... and since neither of us are doctors, I think we need to defer to their judgement as to whether or not he can ever fully reintegrate to society.

If they feel he can, I think it'd be wrong to keep him locked up- that's all I'm saying.

Sure, but the guy will never be normal again. Sure he can take pills to make him feel normal, but all it takes is a few days of no pills and the guy is crazy again.

Not exactly the liability we should be throwing back into society.
