We are free to do as we want, we're just pretty intelligent. We could wear shoes indoors just like we could smear our own feces all over our walls. As a civilized nation we simply choose not to do these things.

I have never had anyone come in and walk around my place with their shoes on : every single person has always taken their shoes off at the door. I mean, it's just basic hygiene.

But if someone started trekking around my place with the same shoes they arrived with on : I would actually stop them dead in their track, ask them to go back to the entrance and take off their shoes. Yes, I would definitely do this.

That's because I don't want them to trek around my house with the same shoes that have picked up the grime of the sidewalk and concrete.

i just don't like walking around barefoot. even if you never wear shoes inside somebody has before. i rent, my carpet is 10000 years old, i'm sure the toilet has overflowed at some point before i moved in, etc.

what about a repair guy coming in? or the exterminator coming for a little spritz to keep everything critter free? dirty old boots everywhere.

then i'm just supposed to climb in my bed with fecal matter and whatnot all over my feet? NO THANKS!
