Like any other team in the NHL...........you take care of your own. He was a great islander, and was given a job as a result. I think the isles need more of that. I dont mind Butchie............even if he does suck. He still was a winner on the ice. - kindlyrick
the funny thing is it seems like im picking on you; truth is, i just totally disagree with just about everything you say.
not sure what winning on the ice and being able to call a game to do with each other. announcing and playing are 2 totally different things. if wayne gretzky were mute would he also be a great announcer just because he was a winner on the ice??? |

Smith is a douce. He put the kings in a corner this offseason as well and demanded a trade to just Edmonton and Lombardi got nothing back. He hurt them more then us. Kings really miss him and they got nothing in return. - Isles316

I agree. I do not get what's entertaining about baseball? There is no action and rarely any excitement. The only thing I like about it are the stadiums. When I go to a game I spend more time around the arena in the restaurants or shops than watching the actual game. - mighty13duck
Well going to a game is cool, because its a summertime thing........sunshine and beer.....thats cool to anyone |

My dad tells me he knows the game cause he was amazing in the past. I am with you Vukots Butchie has to be the worst announcer I have ever heard in my life. Does not know anyones name, does not even watch the same game and he is mean. I went to say hi to him one time when I saw him walking at the Collisieum and he made believe I was not there. I screamed at him like Hello and he totally ignored me and the guys near me said he is a well cant say it here. After taht I lost respect for him. Hearing him on TV is just atrocious. I dont know I guess it is better the Deb Placey who I can see ebing the next person in line OY VEIGH!! - kasperrko

Dont laugh, but I think you just called it. Ricky D will be the isles play by play guy one day. It makes perfect sense. He cant keep his mouth shut |

Msg does the hiring. The isles have nothing to do with it. Also can't argue the point that putting an ex key player in the booth is a good move. Butch sucks yes but more alumni with his resume should be present in this org. - Isles316
Thing is regardless if you are alumni if you have no clue what is going on during the game or nothing about the game anymore it is embarassing to hear anything come out of your mouth. I am talking to you Butch |

Im not sure your comparison with Wayne being mute and a good commentator. But just like the Rangers who hired Dave Maloney, or the Devils who hired Kenny Daneyko........you take care of your own.
I think you think Im saying that because Butchie was a good player means he'd be a good announcer.......but im not. Im saying that he got the job as a result of being a great islander. I have no problem with that. |

That's not really accurate. The isles very much have a say in who is hired. While it is true that MSG hires the on air talent, the teams have a big say in who they want in the booth. I AGREE with keeping the alumni around but they should be able to speak proper english if you're going to throw them in the booth. He is a train wreck in the booth. END OF STORY!!! |

So many people have a problem with Butch..........but the guy actually played the game and won. Have some respect for that. So he makes errors on the names.........he's an ex stanley cup champion. He's not the play by play guy. Hes there to talk hockey......which he obviously knows a thing or two about.

if thats the case then my issues are with the people who hired him and where their priorities are when looking for an announcer. id like to believe there are more qualified ex-islanders that can speak english and recognize the players on the ice. |

Perhaps there are but not renewing Jaffe's conny was right before the season was to start.......Butchie was there, knew the game, so they gave him a shot. I for one like seeing him on TV rocking the rings. Islander cup rings........dont ever forget that. |

That's the problem. His job is to talk not babble and make no sense. Its just not names, he can't complete a single sentence without stuttering or getting lost mid sentence. I still don't see the connection of being a good player who has won stanley cups and being a good color guy in the booth. Denis Potvin was a winner and he knows the game and when he does the color for games he speaks well he makes sense and adds insight to the game. He basically does the opposite of Butch. You want to take care of your own fine, just facking keep him off camera |
