I doubt JVR is really going to go anywhere, BTW. He's already displayed what he can do at the top of his game (looking like a man among boys in the Boston series). The ownership had committed to 6 years with him soon after cleaning out the previous core of the team. Whether or not he's juicy bait for a trade, i would consider him and Giroux as untouchable at this point. - steelydan
6 years with his cap hit and potential will go a long way in landing someone like sutter or weber.. |

Absolutely. I talked about that yesterday with a co worker. Bryz hasnt been good. I will admit that. He needs to vastly step up his game.. But Brian Boucher holds the modern day record for the most consecutive shutouts (5 games).
What does that have to do with anything? Well confidence goes a long with with goalies. If a goalie can get his confidence up and keep it up.. they tend to elevate their play. Early in the season Bryz had an amazing amount of unstopable fluky deflection goals go in.. it was deflating. Then he started to get his confidence up and went on a 12 game tear.. and then the confidence deflated again, and lately, he will look good make some solid saves, and then a fluky goal will be scored, and then he lets up a weak one.. and he has no confidence.
The defense can help that, by preventing break downs like the glaring ones in the winter classic, and last night. When you have faith in your defense, it boosts your play.. same as when you have faith in your goalie.. - jak521
Very well put. I believe it is a confidence thing.

I think Bob's work ethic, and his commitment to the game, he's going to will himself to get better and better. I think he is a starter in the NHL right now for a fair amount of teams. If the Flyers don't trade him, he's going to get to free agency and teams are going to pay him more than the Flyers will be able to. Bob wants to start, no way he is satisfied playing 20-25 games a year as a backup. - PLindbergh31
Bobrovsky won't be eligible for UFA until after the 16/17 Season. Not something they need to be worried about right now. |

Do you know what the qualifying offer will be that the Flyers have to tender him? |

he'll be an RFA first, i believe, so the flyers will have some control. if it turns out bryz poops the bed, the flyers might be able to live his cap hit for awhile assuming the cap continues to rise. then again, another lockout could be on the horizon after this year. many questions linger. - hammarby31
With Bobrovsky being an RFA, and won't be eligible for bonuses in his next deal. Although his base salary will likely be higher then it is right now. Good chance his Cap hit is lower then what it is now. |

Hex I think you mentioned you were a goalie before, anyway if so how would you feel if your forwards were skating around carelessly while you get peppered with shots and no one picking up the rebounds? |

Won't matter. The 16-17 season is bound to be lost to a lockout. Then, in 17-18, he will cost $17 Million per due to rising salaries.

If his cap hit is likely to be lower, then there is no need to panic as we got Bryz locked up forever and Bob could remain here while he gets better and grows into that starting job without sending the flyers to cap hell, correct? |

Giants were interested in bringing back Spagnuolo, but when you are winning division championships, and are in the process of another Super Bowl run, you can't concern yourself with next years staff.
Does the Spags move relegate Castillo to a glorified busboy? |

It would drive me bonkers.
THe team I play for now we've had it really sorted out (in our league anyways) for about 3 seasons now. The coach wants me to confidently challenge the shooter at the top of my crease, D lets me see the shot, and looks to either tie up the forwards or clear the puck on rebounds if they are there. They do a great job and I think I do my part. The key is as you say, I have confidence in them, and they in me. We've been successful and it's created an atmosphere where even if we give one up or even have a bad game, people's mindset (including the coach) is that it happens, and we normally get right back on the horse. To me that's the real key..how do you respond when you have a stinker goal or game.
In short I think it's kinda the same with the Flyers and Bryz. If the team or Bryz gives up a lead or bad goals are scored.. they start thinking ..here we go again instead of ..that stuff just happens. Totally confidence and it's mostly mental. |
