I'm not ready to give up on JVR either. I'd move him in the right deal though. We have Carle for this year only as of right now. - MJL
Yes, agreed, like Bobby Ryan or maybe Ryan Suter, (don't think the other side's would do that), but I still have more value on him at this stage |

I do agree on the leadership aspect, & yes, I'd move JVR for a more fully rounded proven commodity like Bobby Ryan, or maybe Ryan Suter, but otherwise, no, I hold on to him at this stage - puckhead17
i will say might as well go for the home run...but this team wants to win a cup this year. i think Schenn on the blue line gives the Flyers a better chance to win than JvR imo.
i guess that's my main point. i'm not totally obsessed w/ Schenn or anything

I don't know that they went into this season expecting to compete for the Cup after the huge roster shakeup. Of course, they want to win it, but in the (paraphrased?) words of Holmger, "I don't know if we're going to be better, but we're going to be different." |

well, if Pronger wasn't hurt, you'd be paying your #5 4million....
Schenn is totally 2nd line material on the Flyers right now, with comparable and complimentary skills with all of our top 4.
he'd be the perfect pair w/ Carle... - eshake
You are right about the Pronger thing, (I'm in the minority with a lot of people on Pronger, as I hated his contract as much as I hate Bryz's), I liked Pronger when he was in St.Louis, & Anaheim, he was too old to throw all that $ at, at this stage for so long, I never felt confident he was going to be a $5 million a year player at 38, 39, 40.
And I think we're down playing our top 4 a little, I think our top 4 is very solid, when all are playing within there strength's, also I think Schenn is struggling this year & not getting minutes in Toronto, so there's a little setback related to the year JVR is having |

Don't think a cup was planned with all the young players & turnaround yet either |

If your trading for a player like Schenn, your not doing it because your trying to win now. Schenn is probably 2-3 Seasons away from being the player he can ultimately be. He's a player your going to have to be patient with.

I dont think you even offer JVR in any trade unless you attempting to add a player like Weber. |

It's pretty common for young defenseman to have ups and downs. Their development is very rarely linear.

my point still stands, that he, with his talents, improves the flyers (and their need for defense) more than JvR does at this moment.
the future will be brighter for both players, i think we all agree |

competing for a cup was expected the second they dropped a bajillion dollars on a second russian goalie. |

I don't know. I think he would certainly help the Flyers on the back end. But if JVR can continue to progress, he can be a dynamic player for the Flyers.

not looking to move him, but, man o man, if Anaheim said, "here take our Ryan please"
I have to do that
that would be proven over potential, but would never happen so back to I'm not moving him |

The signed Bryzgalov for 9 years. I think the Flyers realize they aren't a Cup team this year. They know they're a team of the future. I hope they don't go into win now mode at the deadline.

i guess it's what you perfer...the potential for a 30 goal scoring, smooth skating power forward with little physicality
or a top pairing leader defenseman who has the ability to shut down and dominate physically?
i'm a d first guy. total sucker for a guy who can skate and bring the hammer |

This year? Probably not. Not with so many new players. It's not a one-year deal. |

I love Ryan. I just think if im going to offer JVR up I want to get a legit top tier defenseman in this league. The offense on this team doesnt seem to be an issue as much as the defense. Ryan for JVR would be something to think about but I think I hold JVR to use him in a package deal to acquire Weber (if possible). Both situations are a long shot, so JVR stays. |

I think we need a real defenseman coach. I mean.. Berube isn't coaching our defense is he? |

They can have both. They can get that player in the offseason when Suter, Weber, and others may be available. |

I'm not arguing that at all. If Schenn reaches his potential of being a true physical shut down defender, with a little bit of offense to go with it, that's an extremely valuable player. |
