I love Ryan. I just think if im going to offer JVR up I want to get a legit top tier defenseman in this league. The offense on this team doesnt seem to be an issue as much as the defense. Ryan for JVR would be something to think about but I think I hold JVR to use him in a package deal to acquire Weber (if possible). Both situations are a long shot, so JVR stays. - stveshdy
Nashville may want one of Mez, Coburn or Carle back, (losing Weber), in a package, & one of them plus JVR is steep, unless I'm getting something else back
IDK, maybe that is fair, as we are talking about Weber |

I hope they don't go into win now mode at the deadline. - MJL
dude, this team is a handful of points out of the conference lead....why not go into win mode?
this team isn't perfect, but none are really, even cup winners. i know that this brass will make a move, if it's open, that brings the chance for a cup closer.

I think we need a real defenseman coach. I mean.. Berube isn't coaching our defense is he? - archion113
that is pretty funny when u think about it, like having an ex forward coach your goalies |

I'm not talking about what the team will do. Why not go into win now mode? Because I don't want to give up any youth or the future of this team in any way to try and win now.

They can have both. They can get that player in the offseason when Suter, Weber, and others may be available. - Flyskippy
this is a true point...but like i said, i think homer and snider will pull the trigger this season.

They may pull the trigger. But they better be aimed at the right target.

This year? Probably not. Not with so many new players. It's not a one-year deal. - Flyskippy
Not to mention they have a goal of trying for the cup every year so this won't be any different that next year or the year after.

Why set back the team by trading away what could really grow and gel together over the next 5+ years? They could have several players reach their peaks at the same time up front, Bob & Bryz in net, and shore up the D over that time for several shots at a Cup instead of going for broke - and emptying the team's draft pick supply. |

i don't agree that would be the overall effect of a trade this year, big or small. but i guess we'll just have to wait to find out.

Pronger being out changes the perspective. It has to. Instead of thinking "this year," because his career was winding down, they now have to think patience because his career may well be over. |

It depends on the deal. If your trading top picks and or players such as Schenn and Couturier, or even JVR, for a player such as Iginla. You are giving up the future for now.

Can't see Nashville trading Weber away at the deadline for one of two UFA defensemen. Mesz, JVR, and a draft pick I see. |

That's the biggest question, who would that "right" target be & what would that cost be to land that "right" target.
If it's too high I try for a lesser target if it's reasonable. |

As long as Nashville is in the playoff hunt it makes zero sense for them to move either Suter or Weber even if they are blown away by an offer.
Also they'd probably get better offers after the season when every team can bid without the cap coming into question. |

Only if Carle were signed first, would h be an option, I see him getting a Coburn type deal this year, if not, then it's because they are gunning for someone else |

The more and more the young core of this team contributes on a nightly basis, the more I am against a move to "shore up" the D, meaning giving away one JVR, Schenn, or Coots.
I'll only be in discussion with a Dman who is only going to cost us a pick, even if its a first rounder. |

I'm extremely hesitant to trade any of the current players on the team. I really like this team. I'd prefer that they start using the draft to continue to build this team, and supplement with free agency. As I've always said, I'm in favor of any trade that makes the team better. What that is right now I don't know. It's like what pornography is. You know it when you see it.
