is it really certain to think, after the last 3 years, that JvR has any better chance to become a top 3 forward as Luke Schenn has to be a top pairing Dman that can consistently skate 20+ quality minutes?
both players have all the tools.
the FLyers need D right now for their cup run, and moving forward. i'd take Schenn for JvR - eshake
The Flyers also need to look at the future, not just the here and now. If the Leafs are willing to cut ties to Schenn, why trade somebody with JvR's potential for him? If you need a defenseman for the immediate future a guy like Francois Beauchemin is a better grab than Schenn.
Also considering the developmental arc of both players, I think JvR could well be the better player in time. Schenn played major junior, JvR was bouncing from NJ high school level to the US developmental program. Schenn was playing 70 games at age 16 against top tier competition. JvR wasn't. |

One of those two aren't getting in. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. |

Also you do not trade JVR for Luke Schenn.
Schenn will probably be a solid 2nd pairing dman in the NHL, that's a good thing. He is a good hockey player.
JVR showed last year in the playoffs he can be a top line power forward. If he wasn't injured this season this wouldn't even be discussed.
There are better ways to get a NHL Dmen via trade then moving one of the teams best young forwards.
Just my 2 cents. |

Like I said not a knock on Schenn at all because he's a good player who might become very good.
JVR is a good player who has potential to be great and he's shown that he can be.
I stick it out with JVR |

Yeah, I like Schenn, too...just not the level I like JvR. If I'm moving JvR, the return better be an out and out stud. Again, I'm not saying JvR for Shea Weber would happen, but JvR as part of the package-so long as the package isn't too large. |

my attempt at keeping things somewhat normal today.
Not the same but along the same lines the Justin Williams/Markov trade still haunts me, I'd hate to see it happen again.
