Your serious with this response?
You would trade the best player in the NHL for Weber? - Flyers2821
It's easier finding a stud # 1 center, then it is to find the a stud # 1 dman who has every tool in his bag. Weber doesn't have any weaknesses. He's big, he's mean, he can skate, he has a bomb for a shot, and he's a great leader. Dmen like this are very rare.
I said I wouldn't trade Giroux for Weber based on the 3 year age difference, if they were the same age a lot of people would prefer Weber. |

I think this fantasy hockey world discussion needs to take a break, too much foolishness and opinions about players that are not factual at all.
Perhaps talking about the Flyers vs the Islanders tonight might be a solid idea.
Or feel free to make up trades and values of players that are way off base.
Whatever works for you all. |

And what we are saying is why Trade JVR? They can get a top dman in free agency.
This is not the year we win the cup. We all knew this heading in to this season and we all knew that Homer is finally doing the right things and developing a long term contender from within. We all decided we were sick of them dealing away good players.
There is no reason in the world they cant keep everyone and go out and get a major d-man in the off season. They don't need to trade anyone...and they shouldn't trade anyone. - MBFlyerfan
You add Ryan Suter to this team and they have a very legitimate shot at winning the cup this year. |

There is a large consensus that feels Suter has made Weber look better than he is.
Justsayingisall - jak521
i dont know if i'd go that far, but i definitely feel that he gets overshadowed by weber |

I didn't say that, but the state of the Flyers defense is such that if Timonen were to leave when his contract is up, they are in some serious trouble on the back end.
Adding a guy who can pick up that slack when Timonen leaves and adding him to Timonen right now is a win win situation in my book. It is giving you a better shot to win now and ensuring yourself a legitimate top dman presence in the future. - Flyers2821
Thats 2 years from now. How do you know they wont trade for someone in the future.. or draft a kid that pulls a Doughty... or sign someone in free agency? |

Here's an idea: give up a 2nd, and maybe an AHLer for Beauchamin. That way you still have JVR next year and (in all likelihood) you can still go after Suter as a UFA. Hell, if you let Carle walk you could probably re-sign an aging Beauchamin too.
All that next year for a 2nd and an AHLer... |

That is a lot of if's when you have the opportunity to do it now.
The Flyers have never been a team to sit and wait and hope they can do something or get lucky in the future. |

Whose Ed Snider? - jak521
That would be the Flyers Ed Snider? Though it could be anothers Ed Snider.
But In answer to your question, I am pretty sure he belongs to the Flyers. |

I dont think so..
Look at what it took San Jose to get Brent Burns..
Setoguchi, Coyle, and a 1st.
If we overpay, and that is exactly what we would be doing, it could hurt us in other places.
The fact that he is a UFA in 6 months is pretty much all I need to know in order to decide that Suter is not worth trading for right now. |
|
|
|
Ill tell you what.. there was no questioning how important he was on that top d-pairing for the US Olympic team that took the silver... - jak521
always liked him, but that was where i really started to take notice of him. he was awesome in that tourney |

Dude.. Claude Giroux is the best player in the NHL. You don't trade him for anyone. Period.
And you say great centers are much easier to come across than top dmen. Over the past 5 years the Flyers have had 2 of the games best dmen on their team and havent had an elite center since Eric Lindros.
Name the NHL centers on Claude Giroux's level over the past decade. Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin... The dude is an absolute rare breed. To trade him for anyone would be absolutely horrendous. |

Nothing to analyze with Flyers/Fishsticks Butsy. It's like the Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals.
