Why not wait... - jak521
Have to wait on Suter. I am not trading JVR to rent Suter for a playoff push. If he decides he hates the Northeast and doesn't resign what does that get ya.
A sign then trade would have to be worked out.
I don't believe he doesn't get traded if Nashville can't sign him. At that point Nashville does not have any leverage and JVR would be an over payment.
I'm not sure that's a fair deal for the Flyers anyway. |

Tonight is the perfect night (and his birthday) for Giroux to light up the scoreboard and get back on track. He just hasn't been himself for about three games, tonight its time to break out of that!
Did I hear correctly that he won 17 face offs in the game the other night? That has to be a career best for him right?
Would you give up JvR in a deal for Ryan Suter?
To get Suter, Nashville is going to want a young player ready to step in and with a very high ceiling. On our roster we have 4 of them... Giroux (not happening), Schenn, Couturier and JvR.
I think Homer and the organization have too much riding on Schenn and Couturier in terms of the offseason trades to move them. I also think the idea of G, Schenn and Couturier down the middle is too great to give up. JvR has to be the guy to move in a deal for a big name dman right?
Thoughts? - Flyers2821
No I wouldn't trade JVR for Suter. |

He will be a UFA in roughly 6 months. - jak521
So make the trade and sign him now. Over pay a bit, since your gonna have to overpay a lot when he hits the market, and get the deal done. |

Personally I think that is a good trade. |

for being the 2nd overall pick he has not lived up to that yet i know its still early in his career but still he does not play like a power forward that he supposed to be when he was drafted everyone said hes the next john leclair well i just dont see it he like 6'3" he plays like hes 5'10" - griouxmvp2012
Who said he was the next John LeClair? They have nothing in common besides the country they are from and the team they played for.
EDIT: I didnt even finished reading your post until after I commented.

Goligoski for Neal and Niskanen
I mention the above to show you how much a puck moving dman will fetch you.
If I'm the Flyers I don't trade a player they just re-signed this past summer who played like a beast in the playoffs for a dman that is a rental or has any question marks at all.
I'd rather they see how Gusty pans out and give it some time, there are deals for a Spacek or a Staios at the deadline that could be made for cheap. |

Why? You acquire the player and sign him to a long term contract before he hits the market. Flyers would have no problems giving him a long term contract, we all are aware of that. |

I think the likeliest scenario is a pending UFA Dman being added near the deadline. All the obvious suspects Gleason, Beauchemin etc.... With the plan being trying to sign Suter on July 1. If the Suter plan falls through the Flyers may try and re-sign the player they acquire at the deadline, as well as re-signing Carle. It doesn't make much sense trading a core player for Suter when he can potentially walk after 25 games in a Flyers sweater. |

why because he is a big forward?
John LeClair didnt hit 20 goals until his 5th year in the NHL.
John LeClair didnt have have the speed JvR posses.. He stood in front of the net and let pucks hit him, and cleaned up the trash. He had a good slapper as well.
JvR has better speed and hands, but isnt the power forward LeClair is. |

Why? Flyers could talk with Suter and his agent prior to the deal being made and work out a contract to be signed when he is traded... there's no way Nashville comes to an agreement on a contract with him and then trades him. |

HF: GM Paul Holmgren compared you to John Leclair and Rick Nash, what do you think about that?
JVR: These are pretty big names and pretty big shoes to fill. John Leclair is one of the best American hockey players ever playing the game. Rick Nash is a rising star in the league. So, just to be in the same sentence of these names is just an honor. I mean, hopefully one day I can be a successful NHLer but I haven't been part of it yet.

I agree, but lets not overlook the possibility of them having a contract agreed upon when the trade is made. That is a very possible scenario. |

Looking forward to seeing Gusty play tonight, I thought he looked good in the handful of games he played. Perhaps the Flyers brought Gustafsson up to showcase him as a potential trade piece. |

He compared him to John Leclair and Rick Nash, didnt say that he was the next one of those players... Right there should tell you something. Nash and Leclair are two totally different styled players.
JvR is not, will not, and never was, anything similar to John LeClair |

The difference is that if you sign him in free agency, you'll be paying out the nose on his new contract; whereas if you overpay in a trade to sign him, you give up players/picks/ prospects and still pay out the nose on his new contract. |
