I have only started to notice media guys cross the line into what was thought to be unprofessional territory since the finals. Is it American sports media vs Canadian? Or has Vancouver never really had such a strong rivalry against an American team before Or, has the bar for professional sports media changed without me noticing it? I don't pay attention to local media in terms of NFL or MLB, so I don't know.
One Boston fan mentioned the media market in Boston is so competitive that the media guys are trying to one up each other for attention to the point they have to cross the line to get noticed. Has competition really forced some American sports media to go from professional story tellers telling a somewhat balanced story to TMZ sports?
All I know is if the likes of Don Taylor or Dan Murphy called a Bruin a coward, or sandbagged a Boston writer on a talk show, their career would be over and they'd be a running joke for the rest of their careers. In Boston, that stuff appears to be lapped up and applauded. It's facinating to watch.
Edler made the all star team. Good for him but I'd rather no Canucks make it. - Boinker
That's all we need. Any and all future Canucks forums would be infested with Leaf fans pointing out that two of their guys were allstars and the Canucks had none. Better that Edler be asked to go and get a Red Wing injury the week before. As the two most recent Art Ross winners the Sedins probably wouldn't be let off the hook though.
We'll need Hodgson to have a big night because Hitchcock will devise a gameplan to suffocate the top line, occupy Kesler, and stay disciplined as to not give us excessive PPs... I think we lose this one 3-1. - DrChristianTroy
And Hitchcock will tell them force Vancouver to skate cause they look like they're on empty.
It'll be 10 games in 18 days tonight with travel to all 4 corners of the continent.

I think if you look at American media as a whole you will notice this trend. FoxNews, CNN, MSNBC all have their prima donna's. Just immagine how boring the Daily Show would be without FoxNews.

Fox News is a tool they use to spew the most extreme and unbelievable stories/opinions possible so that you're more likely to willingly consume the slightly less extreme, slightly more believable propoganda via CNN or MSNBC. Multiple sources, different messages, same agenda.

Agreed, I'm just suggesting that in major American markets that the sports industry is learning the lessons of the cable news industry to generate interest = viewers = revenue.
They are just doing it to boost his confidence again. - YeOldTimer
Lmfao my sarcasm detector only slight beeped as I read this, since I found it more funny than anything.
Ballard has been awful more than good the past few weeks. Him and Rome have such chemistry together, his pairing has slowly been slipping. Ballard's turnover rate is amazingly bad, and this has been when he's put out with the Twins to try and get his TOI in the offensive zone.
And I'm a Ballard supporter. His performance is going to buy him a trip out of town, and the limited NTC won't be a factor when he's told it'll be CBJ or some other crappy team as one option and the AHL as the other.
The guy just needs an opportunity to play his natural side with a safe partner.
Is cloning still illegal? Can we clone Hamhuis and switch his stick hand so we can keep Ballard. Who I do like, he's seems to fit in with the core guys of the team, was always one to pull silly jokes and be a part of the fun in the locker room.

Probably right. Commentary has to be sensational (and not necessarily accurate) for it to make waves. Roenick's commentary is another example of this.
Speaking of media - Cam Charron is becoming the most reasoned, thought provoking, original and fresh media member covering the Canucks.
He leans alot on advanced stats to prove his points and appears one of only a few media guys that actually understand or tries to understand Gillis' "Moneypuck" philosophy.
He has a very interesting take on Cody Hodgson's increased minutes against Tampa Bay

Problem is, the Boston media went ape in the finals and the national hockey media then followed the story lines they created.

It's a bit overly simplistic, but I think that media (in both countries) has become about sensationalism rather than reporting. There is so much competition to sell a story that making up "facts" in advance to be the first to market has become more important than getting it right. I don't think it is just Boston media, but we hear more about it because of the rivalry.

I don't know what a "Gates Flap" is but it sure sounds like it should be in the Urban Dictionary...

Gates Flap - n. A flap of cloth at the back of one piece long underwear, typically held in place by two large buttons. The Gates flap was invented by William P. Gates in 1770 as a means of relieving oneself in the woods without fully undressing.
Glen Beck has clearly got his Gates flap down here as he is about to take a pounding from the national media

He is a good energy player, but really anyone who plays on the 4th line of a cup winning team, only plays 9 minutes or so. He did his job very well, his teammates love him, and the fans love him. That Burrows stick to the throat was a real tough move by him And Weise like a coward backs away, Thornton would fight anyone on the Nucks, just because he's bigger than Weise, Wiese shouldn't fight? Pathetic. - Allstarzz
