just thinking back to the 2000 draft, I still find it inconceivable that the Islanders drafted DP first overall, bypassing Heatley or Gaborik, when they already had Luongo.
It is so mind boggling that that ever happened, and even if Dipietro didn't have a injury riddled career and a moronic contract, it would still be absurd.
Bill Torrey, The Architect, would never ever have done that in a million years. - jimbro83
Keep in mind, they had the 1st AND 5th picks in that draft... and they ended up with DiPietro and Raffi Torres
Considering what that franchise had... Chara, Olli, Luongo, Brewer... they could have been a playoff team for a long time. |

stapenewsday: Rick DiPietro to have surgery Tuesday to repair sports hernia. Season likely done.

They would have traded him away for some role player that wouldnt last more than 2 years. |

That move and then trading essentially Chara for Yashin a year later were both insane! |

Technically, it was Spezza (2nd overall pick) and Chara for Yashin |

I think Isles got the better end of that deal, matter of fact, Yashin was a steal. |

Reminds me of someone when we're talking about Brandon Dubinsky...
You say people hype him up?
I think people like the player and people liking him on here for you implies the guy is going to put up 90 points... |

Anybody see that Avery was scratched from the Whale's game tonight? According to the Rangers it's for disciplinary reasons. iBob says it's for spitting on the coach. Not sure if it's the Whale's coach, or the opponents coach.
What a tool. |

They got Pineda though. I think its a win win trade. Mariners needed hitting and the Yanks needed pitching. Both players have big upside. |

I never ever say hes a bad player, I always give him props for his defensive game. I only sh!t on his offensive game, and I do that because he gets so much damn hype, and puts up very average numbers. The hype is not relative to the production, yet still people massage his nuts.
When things start to slow down for the team, then people are like where's Dubi? Like hes some messiah or something, HES the guy of all people whos gonna get the team scoring again. I have 0 expectations of the guy. Is he gonna chip in points? Sure. Is he gonna get 40-50 points? Probably. To me hes good, if he stays I wont be mad, if he gets traded, wont bother me either.
If people want to love him like a cult classic movie, which by all conventional theory would be considered an average movie, ya'll are more than welcome to. I personally will never jump on that bandwagon. Ill praise him when he deserves it, and sh!t on him in the same way. Hes been forgettable for the first half of the season, so I apologize that I forget about his point production as of late since its been 10 games, and we have only lost 5 games in regulation (6th in OT) since November 3rd. - aecliptic
I think people value Dubinsky for a number of different reasons...the combo of which make him popular. He hustles, he hits, he kills penalties, he's strong defensively, he's fast, he's feisty and he is consistent on draws. When you're strong in a number of areas that do not show up on the scoresheet, there's bound to be popularity there. Especially in NY where gritty players are appreciated. He's a contributor to the chemistry of the team, which is obviously very high this year.

He should honestly give that money back to the franchise, theyre struggling financially as it is. Than again, with all the injuries and surgeries, he might not have anything left. - aecliptic
franchises fault for locking him up for 15 years. |
