How would you rank our rookies in order?
Here is my list based on play so far:
Couturier
Read
Harry Z
Schenn
Gustafsson
Rinaldo
Bourdon - stveshdy
In terms of contribution this year I would move MAB above Gus and Rinaldo. |

it speaks volumes to the kids, the vets, the coaching and so on that the Flyers are a top 10 team in the NHL with 1/3 of the lineup being rookies.
To be honest I'm thrilled with what all of them are doing. Schenn gets a pass from me because he has been injured since camp and the others have done well

carter did score many, many goals, the ones i remeber are the wide open misses in the playoffs, or him flying down the right side with a huge wrister that goes wide and the other team picks it up coming around with full force and scores. - mydoglicks
Another thing I loved. Carter shooting wide and the other team going the other way and scoring. Happened all the time!
This is the Hockeybuzz rule. You can't praise Couturier, without bashing Carter. |

I can see that. Gustafsson has been hurt but when hes been in the lineup I really like what he brings to this team. |

it makes it easier to justify the trade, because without cooter playing this good this early makes it look like we won the trade |

It has nothing to do with justifying the trade. It has to do with bashing a very good player with innacuracies. It was a good trade. Regardless of how early Couturier is playing well.
Jeff Carter and Mike Richards are gone. They aren't a part of this team anymore. Why can't the good young players be discussed and praised without criticizing past players? |

Preds are a good team, but it sure looked like the 4th away game in one week, the team played listless to start the game and really did a horrible job of clearing the crease.
I'm not making excuses, but the hardest part of the schedule with all of the away games like 15 since Nov 26th is over. The scheduling imbalance is nearly as bad the rest of the season.
There is no doubt, Homer will get a veteran d-man. I think he is big fish hunting right now and can always settle on a rental if needed. |

I have no doubt they're thrilled to home now.
Time to start winning at home and making Philadelphia a tough place to play again, they've been to lackluster at home for a few seasons for my liking. |

Also, about trading for a d-man. It was a pleasure to watch Weber and Suter as a hockey fan. Both are great talents (no suprise there). I think Homer would move young assets, probably not Coots or Read to get Weber. Pred fans are definitely treated to some great d-men. Hopefully, the Preds are able to sign one of them and the Flyers the other.

For my money Weber is the best dman in the NHL.
That said I think he could get $8 million a season, I'm not sure that's wise in the cap world. That said they way the cap keeps climbing who knows.
I have no doubt Homer will be addressing the defense fairly soon, to what extent I have no clue. |

Nor do I.
This team has a good, long window, with all the young talent it has. Selling that future, or even part of it, for a better shot now is being short sighted. Even if they had a Shea Webber, can they beat Boston in a 7 game series? Nevermind what it'd take off the roster to acquire him.
Add a Gleason or Beauchemin if they're cheap enough. If not look at a Hal Gill type guy to provide stability. Let the kids get experience. - Jsaquella
Well weber isn't going anywhere it will be suter but we can just sign him in the offseason or trade for his rights at the draft. But would u be ok with a deal like
Jake V for franson and a pick |

I would hate that trade.
The Leafs gave up a player that can't even play in the NHL for him.
Sorry for jumping in. |

not bashing at all, sorry if it came across as that.
I am huge Voracek fan, I think long run he's going to be a heck of a player. I'd hate to lose him for a guy who is a essentially a 3rd pairing dman at best.

I'm only moving players off the current roster for Weber (which certainly isn't likely to happen), I would much rather see them go the rental route (Gleason, Beauchamen) which will probably be a draft pick and a prospect in the AHL, then revisit Weber and Suter during the summer. |

I'd rather the Flyers go that route as well but I think a top 4 Dman like Gleason/Beauchmin might cost even more then that.
Look at what the Leafs got last season for Beauchmin. |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: 1/15/12 - bmeltzer
As good as Voracek has been, I feel that Peter Laviolette thinks too highly of him. Timonen, Carle and Voracek have been solid at the point on the PP but I'm not understanding why a point shot becomes less important. All 3 players don't really provide this. Nothing against Voracek but maybe we should stop using him as if he's a top forward for this team. On top of this, what was Laviolette thinking by not getting one of Simmonds or Hartnell on that first unit. Did he blink on how we scored on our 2 goals by having someone go to the net? Is he not aware of how good Rinne has been in recent years? Nasville got themselves 2 easy points last night because of the lack smarts being used by the players on the ice and our coach behind the bench. Even with as bad as we played, they could have won but the smart decision making wasn't there across the board. Giroux not shooting the puck is an issue. Allowing a forward stand in front of our goalie undetected is an issue. Last night was a joke. |

Weber is fantastic. I would give up the farm for him and sign him long term. Hard to see Nashville giving him up but who knows what weber himself wants. If I'm the flyers I'm not making any deals that would move a top 9 forward out until we get an evaluation on Gus and MAB for the rest Of the year |

Possibly, I just have a sneakin' suspicion the organization really prefers Weber over all others. It will certainly take a significant package to get him. With Pronger's health and Kimmo's age, the roster could be lacking a true #1 d-man within a few years or sooner. Suter is great, but Weber is truly special. The Flyers have always set their sights high and are willing to pay to get, especially in the near past. The Preds and Flyers certainly have a history in trades.
I'm probably talking out my butt, but I think Homer is really trying to land Weber and will settle for a low cost rental. I really don't have a long list of d-man rentals.

There was a couple of instances where Weber just manhandled players physically and took the puck off of them.

I agree who cares about Carter and Richards, they are gone. I would rather discuss our current players and how good they are or aren't playing.
I'm really excited about this team's young group of players. Look at how many rookies have played and how well the team is doing. Now that is something to really be happy about. IMO Homer should get a lot of credit for how he changed up this team. |
