We're at the point where they can't put one player before the team. It's not fair to the other players to try and spoon feed him some wins, if he's not playing well enough to justify putting him in the lineup. I don't disregard the point that he is going to have to play his way out of it. But playing less starts then Bryzgalov didn't stop Bobrovksy from playing well and earning more playing time.
- MJL

Bob has a chip on his shoulder; Bryz is constantly looking over his shoulder. They are 2 different roles and they will result in 2 completely different mentalities. Bob thought he would be the goalie of the future, only to see the Flyers drop a life-long contract on Bryz and more-or-less guarantee that Bob will be trade bait or a life-long backup. He has every reason in the world to play loose and take chances that can pay off big-time.

Bryz, on the other hand, is thrown into the shark tank with the ruthless media and fans. He was expected to walk into Philly and be the next Parent. Unfair expectations or not, he hasn't lived up to them yet and is clearly feeling the pressure from fans, media, and management as well.

But to your first point: why can't we afford to put the player before the team? Regardless of the team's current performance, this year was more or less a rebuilding year. If there was ever a year to try and get your goalie going, it would be in the same year in which your starting lineup has 4-6 rookies coming in and out of the lineup with your top defenseman being lost for the year. Like it or not, this team is not posed to make a Cup run. Why not work out the kinks with the most important position in hockey (goalie) and be poised for a 2012-2013 cup run???

so do I.

He has to be better but he's had some tough luck as well. I thought maybe after the 1st Ottawa game last week he was righting the ship but it wasn't to be.

Maybe a big win at home this week with the crowd in his corner will do the trick, I'm certainly hoping that will happen.

he'll need to be lights out to get the crowd in his corner. right now, the crowd is waiting for the bad goal right out of the gate.

i really hope he comes around, but it very likely might not happen this season. i can also see this relationship souring quickly.
- hammarby31

this yr just might be a wash. it might take until nxt yr for him to adjust as it has for some other FAs. don't know who it was, but some ex-plyr - beezer or JR - cited some examples of goalies who took a whole season to adapt.

???

So Bob has it easier because nothing is expected of him?

And if Bryz couldn't take the shark tank, he should have stayed with the desert dogs
undue pressure?

it's happened to lots of other guys...but fans and seemingly the media in this town have no patience after 15 years of a goalie carousel and that's understandable.

The contract pretty much says he is the guy for the foreseeable future. And I really do think Bob is gone at the deadline or at the very least this off season. He is one guy the Flyers can deal from a position of strength.

You are right, every goal isn't a bad goal. But you cant deny that there are a large contingent of fans who see it that way.

It's really a formula involving a lot of components. The Flyers have gone from being a decent defensive team, to being a poor defensive team, in the last month or so.
- MJL

and I think that's a formula that spells disaster for Bryzgalov considering he never showed he could play well behind a poor defensive team.

I wouldn't care if it was he or Tim Thomas here in Philly, no matter who came in here signing for a boatload of cash & performing subpar would hear it just the same regardless, (I believe)

They sure are. And the fact that they're doing it against the Giants is making it worse (at least for me).

Also here's another, I remember when John Vanbiesbrouk (spelled wrong I know), came in here for 2 years & they blasted him for that series loss against Toronto, (giving up 9 goals in 6 games?)

And he was a past all star, who only signed for 2 years, (or 3?)

Hate or not, you have to respect what the Giants are doing right now. Completely manhandling what was thought to be the best team in the NFL - at home, with the refs in their pockets (maybe a bit of an exaggeration, but some of the calls today have been horrendous).

OT short side goals will do that, fair or not...especially since he lost against cujo, who was the other big name goalie available in the offseason of 98.
