No doubt. More time spent in their D zone means more chances for bad bounces, and more chances to have teams crash our net. I made a fairly lengthy post on the entire subject earlier today and what I think the issues are.

they could help themselves immensely if they wouldn't reverse every single puck in their own end. there are situations where that is the right move, but they're conditioned to do automatically it seems, and it causes them a lot of grief.

exactly. it's why i laugh at those saying boston/rangers are the teams to beat/shoe-ins etc. it's bullpoop. there's a half season to go, not to mention the playoffs themselves. long way to go. look at what happened to the flyers last year after the ASG.

The thing is, that the overwhelmingly amount of times, teams that play that well defensively, and have goaltending that good, don't implode. It's why I've always said, a lot of people love the aggressive forechecking offensive teams. But I'd rather have teams like Boston and the Rangers. And be able to play shutdown defense. I think one of the biggest issues with the Flyers this year, is their overall defensive play. And most of it is the players. But I also wish the Flyers style and systems were tweaked a little bit.

I think in a lot of cases depending on the advanced scouting and the forecheck a team is using, it's part of the game plan. But from a technical standpoint and as a matter of fundamentals, I agree. Chris Pronger one time when he was breaking in a new D partner told him two things. When ever possible, give him the puck. And secondly, the puck always moves forward.

that's true. the rangers are at or near the top in all of those defensive stats, and i honestly don't expect or believe they will implode. i do believe they can be beaten, and again, injuries can change everything in an instant.

i can't imagine that lava doesn't see the bruins and rangers at the top of the league as a result of their team defense. the rangers don't have a chara or a pronger or anyone close to that, but they're getting it done - in large part because of how well they're goalies are playing. i wish lava would take a bit of a different approach at this point. defense wins in the playoffs, and with all the rookies and injuries it would behoove them to figure out to how shut other teams down.

when other teams forecheck hard - it gives the flyers fits. because the don't move the puck quickly and they send it back and forth behind the net along the wall. i'd rather they just chip it out and set to defend again rather than create a chinese fire drill. quickness in decision making is a part of this. it also plagues them on the pp. they move the puck WAY too slowly - and it allows the other team to attack the half-wall winger and point men too easily.

well Biron got a shutout against toronto last night now King Henrik laid a 4spot to Montreal by philly logic that would make Biron the starter for the rest of the season

The fact remains that Suter will likely be a FA or can be had at the draft for a small price. There is no reason to lose JVR+prospects for a Schenn or Weber. At that point, Pronger will likely have his future decided as to whether he'll play or retire, and the cap situation would be more clear.

Schenn is a project; Suter is proven.

OH look Lundqvist just gave up as I am typing this 7 goals in two starts, not making momentum saves and not giving his team a chance to win, he's done
