Apparently! At 1:00, we'll be moving onto Mike Richards and his bad attitude and how he was a bad Captain. Not sure about tomorrow's agenda. Possibly a round table discussion on Jody Shelley. - MJL
Well, Shelly gets brought up everyday anyway, for some reason.
You and I disagree on Richards, but it's old news anyway and has nothing to do with the current team other than Shenn and Simmonds.

I agree, I'd like to see him get some time there.
Now stop deflecting and get back on topic!

This is the stuff that totally cracks me up. Carter has one of the best wrist shots in the entire League, and Couturier's actually goes in? Carter didn't score 46 goals one Season and for a 4 year span was one of the top goals scorers in the entire League. Where do these statements come from? - MJL
The "best" shot doesn't exactly correlate with goals scored. Please look at Carter's shots on net, or better yet his shot %. Carter's current NHL level shot % is 10.88%. This year Carters at 10.53% with 95 shots. Compare with with Coots current year with 63 shots and 14.29%.
Most people correlate "best" with a higher likelihood of going in the next, aka shot%. Carter is just playing averages...

Bryz wasn't the issue but I wouldn't mind if he was the reason the Flyers won a game.
Maybe I'm off on this but it sure seems there are a ton of tipped goals that go in when Bryz is in net. Tips are almost impossible to save and many times a tip might go wide, hit the goal etc but against Bryz they seem to be going in. Hopefully this trend stops very soon.
The outcome last night was very predictable and the score was a good indicator of the play I thought. - Buts16 .
Bryz relies on his size and initial positioning to make saves. He isnt quick enough to adjust on deflections. Bob has great quickness. I remember several saves against the isles where Bob had saves off of deflections. They seem to get by Bryz way too often. |

I'd like to talk about that topic, as it seems to be an issue, and it is. Defenseman with the way the game is called, have a tough task to keep the front of the net clear. It used to be you could literally grab the guy, or push him, or whatever, and literally physically remove the player from the front of the net. You can't do that now, and you can't check a player without the puck, or it's going to result in a roughing or an interference call. What you can do is get position inside of a player and seal him off. Sort of like boxing out on a rebound in basketball. Very difficult to do. So how do you prevent rebounds and deflections around your net. The best way to do that is to simply keep the puck away from the front of your net. You do that by defending rushes, taking the puck away, and moving smartly and avoiding turnovers. By managing the puck. And you do it by taking away a team's skating room in the neutral zone. Where is this team's neutral zone presence? How often do we see the Flyers clog up the neutral zone and take puck away and transition the other way? and you also do it by forechecking the other team and creating turnovers. And getting a cycling game going, and getting the puck on thier net, and going to the net yourself.
If you allow extended pressure in your zone, you are going to have issues around your net. The Flyers are dealing with that far too often due to coverage breakdowns, and poor puck managment. All these deflection goals aren't an accident.

Couturier on the power play
Yes, Coach rewards those who elevate there game, & the kid is showing that he is already better than a 10 minute 4th line center. |

Ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and look at the shooting percentages of the top shot producers in the League. You'll see that Carter's percentages with the Flyers are in norm with other top shooters. Carter isn't playing averages. You have to be a good enough offensive player to get that many shots on net. You don't have the facts. |

Well, Bryzgalov has this thing about the D letting him see the puck. A struggle in front of him would block his view, though letting a F stand in front of him has the same effect.
It's all about timing, which guys like Coburn and Meszaros (two victims of leaving a guy alone in front recently) have to work through.

And I think him getting that 10-12 minutes a night has really helped him find his way without too much pressure.
What I really like is that he is picking the corners on those shots from both sides of the net.

Amen to that brother, & I remember a particular moment where Jim Jackson commented on how good Bob is on deflections, don't know if he meant it as a hint or not to the issues. |
