Always liked John Erskin and we could use his size back there. When will they stop letting guys go because they want to go to a winner. Snow, build a GD winner here. Stop hiding your phone in the drawer. Get rid of Cappy....I mean Poulin likely want to go to a winner already what he did to him. he has no clue..really doesn't.. most players look at the type of coach a team has, if we bring in a coach players want to play for and is respected that will attract other players. Then you trade for the other guys you need. If streit has to go then get something for him.98% of the other GMs could pull that off ..in other words Garth do your friggin job...enough is enough - Nolanders
Right enough of the no trades and working once a year on draft day and start acting like a GM. Tell Wang to go sit down and start running this team the right way. If you have to go down go down swinging. Stop watching the third stike go by like Beltrain already.

Yes I know this is from the Bleacher Report and some of you dislike the site but this is a pretty good article. I know at least a few of you will agree with it.
That Defense is called Pekka Rinne. Look at the amount of shots he has to face every game and tell me our defense is awesome. It's not. Rinne shuts the opposition down despite our defense most of the time. I will say that the defense was pretty solid against the Flyers despite the 38 SOG, but still, the Preds rely on Pekka to save the day quite often.
As for Lindback, he's a solid backup and I have no problems seeing him inserted into the starting lineup. In fact, I wish Trotz would do it more often and give Pekka a break.
I think it'll be a good, close game. The outcome either way won't surprise me.

Trust me, they play better defense than most of what we've faced lately....a lot of shots, but no seconds..that's the deal. They play a tight box, and clear rebounds well. If you have NHL Center Ice, watch some of the replay of us playing Detroit...our guys got nowhere near the net today, unlike that game- it was like watching arena football. That said, we can't sleep through the first ten minutes of the game, and expect to win....the inconsistency is ridiculous...I understand the schooling by more veteran teams....I do not understand the lack of effort...that's a problem...
There's money to spend alright, our owner is a billionaire. You drove home my point by bringing up the Ehrhoff situation. You can't even get players here by offering them more money than other teams. That's the point. With the uncertaintly with the franchise, no veteran players, coach or GM is going to want to come here. Nobody wants to uproot their families to come to a place that very well could be gone by 2015....I know I wouldn't if I had other options. The players that have no other options are the Rolstons, Staios' and Pandawfuls. That's the caliber veteran youre' gonna get here unless you trade. And if you trade for one, it's gonna take getting rid of some talent and you run the risk of getting a veteran that doesn't want to be here. Catch 22's everywhere! - Charlie21
Ehrhoff is making $10 million this year, and $18 million in his first two years. No way the Isles offered that much up front, even if the cap hit over the life of the contract is higher. I'm not saying the Isles should have offered him that kind of money, I'm just saying the Sabres offered him buckets of money right now; the Isles didn't, so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison. I imagine if the Isles offered $20 million over the first two years, he'd have had a lot to think about.
Preds have shown a low payroll team can still be good. Unless the Isles are willing to move some picks and prospects the team will be no better next year. Wang gets a pass on not having a big payroll but he does not get a pass for not having a better GM and coach or for not demanding a better team. - ses111
Similar to what I said in my last post, look at the numbers, not cap hits. I think the Preds have a lower cap total than the Isles, but if you eliminate buyouts that have already been paid, bonuses that will never be reached, and backloaded contracts, and you look at the actual salaries of the players on the ice this year, it's a much different story with the Isles and Preds. Preds have a total actual salary of about 46,937,500 for the season, give or take. I didn't count two of the extra forwards. The Isles' actual salary is 34,661,000. That price difference is the top-4 d-man and top-line right wing we've been begging for. I guess you can argue Tavares' bonus should count since he'll probably hit most of it...still the number's pretty distant at 37,511,000

I hope they shop him as much as possible. I've never been enchanted by Streit's play. Never thought he was all that he is cracked up to be. - NYIDRIVE4FIVE
That hire got us respect after the Milbury nightmare years and Wang destroyed it. - ses111
SMITH destroyed it... lets not get this twisted.. when he was hired he agreed to a way the team was going to be run.. He knew up front the way Wang wanted things & he signed his contract. Twice he offered contracts without any consent from the committee. One of those contracts was signed (Poti). If he couldn't work the way the team hired him to work.. he should never have taken the job in the first place.

You make a good point Smith should not have agreed to this deal. The whole committee was a bad idea. You need the GM having final call. The problem is that whole fiasco gave the Isles a bad name and now a puppet for a GM.

What Neil Smith said when Charles Wang called him in and told him he had breached the agreed-upon structure of The Committee.

Do i wish Smith was still the GM.. ofcourse.. He had a reputation, he built a cup winner & he was respected by the players. BUT.. if smith were here we would never have gone through a "rebuild" & most likely would be making the playoffs year after year in the 6,7,8 spot... and no future superstar John Tavares.

We probably would not have gone through a rebuild unless Smith also had trouble signing the Free Agents he wanted. It would have been interesting to see how things turned out. It would have been nice to make the playoffs every year though. The whole Smith episode put Wang in total control and probably never gave Garth a fair chance to show what he can do. Garth still has to live with how he got the job and it has to make his job that much tougher. You have to wonder if Garth privately kicks himself for taking the job.

I dont think so... He would never be a GM in the NHL without that opportunity.

wonder what their record is after allowing the first goal on the first shot?
