A win is a win, whether it be against the 14 or 15th place teams or not. Guess what those bottom feeder teams gave the Flyers fits at times in those games. Bobrovsky's stellar play is what got them the points.
It's not as if the Flyers toyed with those teams and Bob just sat on his arse.
That argument I don't think holds much water. - hockeylover
There is no arguement and I gave Bob credit.
I just said he played well against at the time the 14th and 15th seeds in the East, that is a 100% correct statement.

Im not willing to say that their "throwing points away" bc Bryzgalov is in net compared to Bobrovsky. There is no guarantee that Bob wont fall into a funk if he is playing more. - stveshdy
My gut tells me the only way we get Bryz going is several starts in a row. Good and bad teams regardless. Sometimes, it is good to have a game vs a lesser opponent to start to build that confidence up, then take on the better teams feeling like your in a groove. Then if you play well vs a top team, things start to snowball in a positive direction. |

I know you wanted to just augment the position and let bob develop. has he shown you the improvements that make you think that he'll be a solid starter? - isaiah520
I'm not Bradley but I think his puck play has been worlds better than last year. Even on the penalty shot against the Isles he was much more aggressive and not as deep in his net. he came out and changed, thus making the save look easy. |

I'd love to see the Flyers go out and get Dominic Moore, if Tampa isn't going to re-sign him.
I think he brings most of what Talbot brings, but can also win a face-off. They'd make a great PK line. - bradleyc4

Here is how I see it right now.. He still sits back to far for my liking.. he drops too soon, but both are much better than they were last year.. He has GREATLY improved his puck handling, and of late has made a few beautiful passes to streaking forwards..
Do I think he is a a true starting goalie right now..IDK. A 65 game starter? No. A 50 game guy.. sure, I think he can handle that.. but he will probably struggle a bit... He is also much better than his fellow tender right now. |

If the Flyers continue to play the goalies the way they have, I dont see Bryzgalov getting any better, imo. If they want to play Bob cause he has earned it, thats fine by me as I will root for either, but there is no guarantee that Bob will continue his strong play if he is playing every single night. If Bob does play well all is great, if he struggles then who do we go to? Bryzgalov who hasnt played much and who needs to play to get better. |

He has improved. Immensely. But I think a lot of it has to do with confidence and comfort level. |

imo, he's showing technical improvements from last year - both in stopping and playing the puck, not to mention that's he's been very good/great in most games playing sporadically. to me, that shows mental toughness and preparation and i think it lends itself to translating as a starter. he showed he can play well for long stretches last year (but wore down - 1st nhl campaign, rookie, etc, etc, etc).
i'm not saying i want bob to be our starter long term and to give up on bryz. |

This is where I am as well. I like Bob, but I think Bryz needs to be the guy....and feel like he is the guy. Not feel like every time he loses a game or lets up a goal he is going to be riding the pine next game.

Will see what happens and how the Flyers will handle this situation with the goalies. I will support the decision made by Lavy as he will try to do whats best for the team. I just wish Bryzgalov could get some consistent starts and not have to worry about losing or letting up a goal bc he will be on the bench next game. |

wonder how much of that comfort level comes from not having to be the man. |

And conversely, Bobrovsky probably plays the best game of his NHL career vs. the Isles, then gets benched Saturday. |

That's probably the million dollar question for any team looking at him as a starter. Bringing him along slowly as the back-up on an established team should do wonders for him once he's free to go out and look for a starting gig in a few years. |

Yeah, that's a bad feeling as a goalie. To not only have the pressure to play well overall, but the feeling that if you have a sub par game or let in a bad goal that you are benched for the next few. One thing I have learned that's of utmost importance for a goalie is to let a bad goal or game be forgotten. You think about the mistake and how to fix it and then let it go. Also, the real test of mental toughness is if you have a bad goal or game, how do you respond. The best (Roy and others) always responded with a stellar performance after a bad game. If you give Bryz a stretch of starts, and he plays a stinker, putting him right back in to give him the chance to rebound is the way to build his confidence. When Roy or other great tenders played a crap game, there was zero doubt that the coach would go right back to him the next. Because he was the #1 and a HOF er but also in order to get back on the horse so to speak.. |

playing bob against bottom feeder teams makes his stats better and increases his trade value
i just dont see the flyers giving up on bryz his first season, they gave nitty plenty of time, bouch numerous chances and leighton...
im sure bryz will be here at least 3 seasons, unless he asks for a trade. and im sure he will get acclamated with the d, new system and east coast teams and get back to himself.
hes a proven vet goalie that knows how to play, i like bob but he is no better then he was last year and if the playoffs started tommorow i would say bryz starts. |

So what do we do if Bob fails? We have to go back to a number #1 goalie like Bryzgalov who has been demoted to the bench for some time? Thats really going to get his game going along with his confidence. |

Just wanted to say something while sifting thru yesterdays thread. Im surprised at all the Carle hate that has continued this yr. If you honestly feel Carle is struggling, or can't compete since he doesn't have Pronger to lean on, you really aren't paying attention to the fine details in Carle's game. Hes having an outstanding yr and has had very few poor games. He's a very close 2nd behind Timonen as our best dman this yr. A case could even be made he's been their best w his defensive stick work and outlet passing.
Step up your game peeps. Carle will get a hefty raise nxt yr. I hope we find a way to keep him for affordable money |

I've stood as long as anyone has on the Universe express, but i'm about 1 foot away from hopping onto the Bobo express. Bryz has been extremely inconsistent, and it bothers me that he's losing us games. Bob has clearly been the better, stronger, more consistent goaltender. What more does he have to do? I guess the managment has 51 million reasons to start Bryz, but 50,999,999 of them are probably invalid. |
