from eliottte friedman's piece on hnic specific to the flyers:

2. Philadelphia, for example, realizes its defence will need fortification to handle Boston's four-line attack. And the Rangers refuse to place Sean Avery on re-entry waivers because they don't want the nearly $2 million cap hit if he gets claimed elsewhere.
4. It's interesting to hear other teams talk about the Flyers. If there's one thing they really respect, it's Philly's willingness to make bold decisions. That's why there's a suspicion that if Ilya Bryzgalov or Sergei Bobrovsky doesn't grab a stranglehold on the net, Philadelphia may look at someone else (on a short-term contract) to calm the position.
12. Those who are waiting? It's believed the Flyers covet Ryan Suter, so you've got to save your biggest bullets. David Poile is on record as saying he'll hold back until the last minute. Remember, the Flyers and Predators consummated two pretty important trades over the past few seasons: Peter Forsberg at the 2007 deadline, and Scott Hartnell/Kimmo Timonen for draft picks a few months later. Paul Holmgren must feel pretty confident that if he needs to pull off a complex transaction, he can do it with Poile. |

Burke loves big power forwards. I don't think he's "shopping" Schenn as much as he's trying to land a big forward. - Jsaquella

These trades are like a coaster ride. |

I see 2 problems with this... JVR is hurt, thus he cant be traded... and isnt kadri a center? WONT DONT NEED ANOTHER Fing CENTER! - RooNosHockey
Since when can't he be traded? You can trade injured players, so long as both teams acknowledge the injury and the team getting the player accepts the injured player on the league call. |

So Weber is an RFA and Suter will be a UFA at the end of the season. That's the situation, correct? |

Maybe they have a deal with Bob on hold until they can get a legit back-up. |

Edmonton writer mentioned that...FWIW I'd expect that to be close to the price to land Suter. |

i wouldn't put it that way. more like, some execs around the league wouldn't be surprised if the flyers were to do something like that. |

If they are questioning the ability of both goalies to play well why would they want a back up? |

Weber's a RFA with arbitration rights. Suter is a UFA who is out with a UBI right now. |
