why don't we give him a 9 year contract - 2Real
well there's your starter and back-up in one. they both play all the time. no need for coaching announcements or made up media controversy. sounds like a good idea to me.

If he's not terrible.. then what is he? - archion113
he's an excellent ahl goalie and a legit nhl backup, that's what he is. not terrible. not by a longshot. has he played terribly at the worst times for the flyers? yes. but even the best can play poorly at the wrong time.
Ok so JVR gets a cap hit of 4.25 and a modified no move?
I like JvR... but i don't know if i woulda thrown that kinda dough at him so early...
Couldn't we have just resigned him as a RFA and then taken him to arbitration? Eh.. i guess maybe arbitration might have given him the same amount... guess it doesn't matter much now...

I doubt forever.. but i'm sure it will be a long time... - archion113
forever. brodeur is pretty much the last of what can even remotely be considered a standup goalie, and i don't see kirk mclean coming out of retirement any time soon.

I disagree with you more than i have ever disagreed with anyone in my life.
He is not an NHL backup goalie. He's a career AHL'er.
But, since evaluating talent is more opinion based than fact based, i'll respect your opinion of him.
