I'm legitimately interested to hear what the Leafs fans thought of Foligno's hit on Phaneuf.
To me, it looked like Phaneuf was coming in for the kill shot, and Foligno ducked under him. It didn't appear pre-meditated at all to me. But also to note is that Phaneuf left his feet- looks like he jumped towards him before the hit, which made it look ten times worse.
Given Marchand's recent suspension- I can understand the refs giving him a penalty (although I don't agree with it). I can't see him getting suspended though. - Jordo
he hit him in the knees/thighs.. its an illegal hit.. and phaneuf's skates were still on the ice at the point of contact
the momentum was all phaneuf, I agree with you there.. but you cant undercut a guy like that.. you can end careers that way

this article isn't tooooo bias, i don't think... - coach
lol so this guy knows how phaneuf felt.. and him sitting out for a few mintues was to embellish so that the penalty that was already called gets called?
the whole theory doesnt make sense.. it was a borderline hit by foligno.. plain and simple.. and the refs called it.
thats what borderline is.. sometimes it gets called and sometimes it doesnt |

he embellished it? how.. he got smaoked in the thighs by a low hit, flipped completely upside down (because thats easy to do on skates right?) and then when he tried to get up he realized it hurt too much so he stayed down til he could get up.
2min minor was a fair call on the play.. no injury.. no big foul..

We've derailed the thread excellent. Let's talk about Grabovski and why we'll miss him when he gets traded at the deadline |

The old Leafs would have been screaming bloody murder after this game. Wilson and Burke's Leafs made no mention.
Which way of dealing with it is better? |

Key words being "after the game" During, they were vocal. After doesn't change the outcome. I like that no one complained in the post game interviews. That's for the fans to do. |

He lost the last two.
Lombardi was good on the draw for a change but IMO did a great Jason Blake impersonation all night. Skating fast while shooting the puck weakly at the goalie doesn't cut it for me. My sister shoots harder. Never used a linemate all night. Not that his linemates were worth a crap. - honesthockey

I heard the Leafs are taking Schenn to an undisclosed torture room to make him more ornery. He just stood and watched two Senators between him and Reimer while the puck was in the crease. We really need defensemen with mean streaks who hack, slash, cross-check, etc. the opposing players who insist on crashing the crease. |

I find when it is quiet is when Burke does make trades. Although it has been chatty the last few days anyway.
I'm kind of worried about any trade Burke makes now. I have this feeling it isn't going to be a good one. Plus most of the rumors are for wingers (i.e. JVR, Ryan) but what we need more than anything is a legit #1 centre (i.e. Staal, Getzlaf, etc.). Obviously those aren't easy to come by, just saying what's the point of trading for another winger when our current wingers are doing pretty well: Lupul and Kessel are among league leaders, MacArthur is doing okay and not too pricey, Kulemin is having a bad year but is coming off a 30 goal season. Even if we get Bobby Ryan or something like that where is he going to play? Second line with Grabovksi and Kulemin or MacArthur? Doesn't seem like a great fit to me. |

I am not a fan of Burke, time for people to realize some grit really is essential. - spatso
That's where you and me disagree, heh. I'm a Burke guy-- because I like the fact that he's willing to do something and make big risk moves, as well as likes hockey played the right way -- rock'em sock'em.
That being said... Where the heck is the rock'em sock'em? The backend has some, but outside of the draft he hasn't added any punch beyond Army and Brown to the forwards.
It'll come, but boy... come faster. |

frattin is sorely missed in that regard... but ya know.. since he wasnt scoring at a 30 goal pace he's a waste of a roster spot
rosehill mucked it up as well when he got on the ice.. give credit where its due - Dozzer
He went after Foligno, but the refs broke it up.
Pissed me off. Just let them go, get it out of the way. |

Spezza skated through the crease and both his skates are in the blue when the goal goes in, at least be honest, you got a goalie interference goal - senstroll
Really, so the crack commando goal review team of the NHL missed that one huh?
Ottawa has never ever had a call go against them. Only the Leafs, thats why the Leafs haven't been able to make the playoffs in the last half dozen years. The refs are against you and Jesus doesn't like the color blue. |

My take on the Foligno hit
Dion came in for a big hit, and Foligno saw it. He went for the hip, and Dion jumped to try missing it, making it look lower than it was and hurting Dion more than it should have. He came down on his neck and that's why he went off-- that's a scary place to land.

While Schenn may finish all his checks( 2nd in nhl in hits ) I'm sorry but he is soft. You dont learn to be fiesty or Fierce. It is a character trait that is developed from a young age and goes hand in hand with personality. Schenn is big and strong and a softy. Im sure he still has teddy bears in his room. His reaction time is slooooow and he cant clear a puck away from danger. Screw all y'all and your plus minus arguments, Watch him play. He isn't goping to wake up one day in 3 years and become something he isnt today.
Best Leaf defenders right now in order
Phaneuf
Liles
Franson
Gunner
Gardiner
Schenn
entire marlies defense
entire royals defense

I've stated at the beginning of the season that the Leafs wouldn't be making the playoffs.
It now seems so evidently clear that that remains to be true.
However, last nights game still pisses me off.
- Horrible reffing....turd burglar spezza is sitting on Reimer during a goal and he made no effort to move off of him....oh but its a goal!
- Kessel...get some new moves buddy (gawd you're predictable) and stay on your feet...a couple of bumps and he's flopping everywhere.
- Good game by Franson....nice to see Phaneuf step up...Gardiner played well..but the rest of D was just bad. Gunnar was everywhere yet nowhere...Schenn got trapped a couple of times..doesn't move anyone out from in front of the net and always loses he's guy. WTF
- The Leafs need a game changer badly. Kulemin is so ineffective right now....mr oh so close.
- Reimer had some good saves...but had 2 bad goals...especially the last one. |

that's what I saw.
However- the embellishment theories come from the fact that he immediately looked up to the ref, like he was going to get up, then went right back down. |

I am sure they were reveiwing if it was kicked in, not the goalie interference.
I am just saying call it what it is, he skated in the crease on his own and stood on reimer
