Marchand lays a cheap shot down, clear as day....all of a sudden every hip check is the world's worst cheap shot. |

Probably.
What does that matter? Point is we're better than you, and have been better than you for a decade.
That's a fact. - Jordo
a decade is 10 years
shall we go back to when we swept you within that 10 years? |

no
its not
a hip check you use your hip
foligno doesnt use his hip, try watching it without your "know it all" glasses on.
why do you think the ref called it a clipping penalty, he was right there, were you?
i dont think so. - big_dion

By reading the posts here this morning, you'd think Foligno broke both Dion's knees on the play. |

If I was Brian Burke, I would be quietly sending video of Ottawa's second goal to the league office. The fact that referees are full-time employees, you'd think they would know the rules a little better, especially when it happens right in front of them.
That being said, the Leafs need to find a way to win these games, a few dirty goals would have done the trick. - Cimo
A few blown calls in that game. Reminded me in lesser extent of Bruins and Canucks. LOts of cheap shots on Kessel and the first line last night. The clearing attempt at the end of the game was clearing off a stick in the Ottawa zone and the faceoff should have been inside as a result. |

nah i was more pissed about the no call on the 2nd goal.
other than that and the cheapshot that was called by the ref - it was an exciting game to watch for sure. some good hits, a couple fights and a ton of quality scoring chances.
was a good one all round. |

it was barely even a hit...had phaneuf not landed so hard and got up and kept skating it would have hardly been a penalty...i was fine with the 2 minutes...refs are going to call that all day...it was a mix of foligno ducking and phaneuf jumping...it was a weird play |

No.
Rosehill tried stepping up and the refs stopped it. As the Captain he leads by example, and finishing his beef is just part of the game. If someone kills Kessel with a dirty hit, you're damn right I want Dion jumping in... that's part of his game. No more of this B.S. pansy hockey where you walk away. - Brian Huddle
I think you are off on your analysis. Phaneuf has the reputation as being one of the Laefs more rugged players. Ottawa has a whole bunch of players who play the rugged game including Carkner, Konopka, Neil and Smith. But, more important, I thought the fight was the turning point in the game. Foligno held his own, some think he won the fight, the Senstor bench was pumped. The Leafs rolled over and the Senators got back into a game where they had been badly outplayed.

Take off the goggles. It's a hip check. - Brian Huddle
no huddle.. it was too low..
it was borderline.. a bit too low to be a hip check a bit too high to be clipping
borderline calls go both ways.. sometimes they're called and sometimes they arent
i am sure the leafs would prefer the spezza goal got taken back and no penalty was called on foligno, however, thems the breaks.
but.. hip checking a guy in the thighs should be illegal.. the speed the game is at now can destroy a guys career with a hit like that.. the league needs to clearly define this

Come on man. Your team needs to take a little responsibility for playing soft in front of your own net, and not crowding the Senators goalie. 38 shots are great but who in Tonronto is going to stand in front of the net and cause poop, go to the dirty places, etc? Anderson has a bad case of not only over commiting but losing his mind and focus when he's being screened and stepped on.
In the end, this game will be remembered for the W by Sens fans and the L for Leafs fans. All the poop that happened in between doesn't matter.
Honestly like the bizarro world when a BB team is filled with soft, small, scoring forwards and no goaltending. You need to send Grabowski, Kadri and whatever else and get yourself some scoring grit. I mean, Spezza in front of the net? Toronto, other than the first period played like the soft Sens with soft goaltending of the recent past. You know, the Toronto team that has come into Scotiabank Place and hit the snot out of the Sens. A missed call wouldn't be what pissed me off about that game, the way that half the Leafs didn't show up for one of their rivals would be having me chew my lips off. |

I honestly don't mind either hit.....but if Marchand get's five games, then Foligno's should be looked at as well. It's the infamous last second low bridge check or submarine hit that never used to be punished-but in todays nhl it is. |

ya im indifferent on the 2nd goal...that could have gone either way...i wouldn't have been shocked if it was waived off..and at the same time I wasn't shocked it was a good goal...reffing is all over the place
i was surprised how quiet it was at the ACC...was anyone there and maybe it just wasn't coming through on TV? |

What analysis? Phaneuf being rugged should mean he should be playing that way. I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
I agree that it was the turning point-- but I still think that it's something you do, go after the guy. |

I agree, the Marchand suspension was way too excessive. But if that gets five games, then the Foligno hit has crossed the same line. |
