Gawd knows it wont be schenn.
Besides, Gardiner appears to have more upside than him .

- Fakepartofme

Wouldn't be so sure about that. Gardiner's also a year older.

I think you are off on your analysis. Phaneuf has the reputation as being one of the Laefs more rugged players. Ottawa has a whole bunch of players who play the rugged game including Carkner, Konopka, Neil and Smith. But, more important, I thought the fight was the turning point in the game. Foligno held his own, some think he won the fight, the Senstor bench was pumped. The Leafs rolled over and the Senators got back into a game where they had been badly outplayed.
- spatso

He did win the fight. Phaneuf has a bruised jaw and tripped on a stick. But he went with him, and that will impact the season and not just this game.

What analysis? Phaneuf being rugged should mean he should be playing that way. I'm not sure what you're getting at here.

I agree that it was the turning point-- but I still think that it's something you do, go after the guy.

- Brian Huddle

Think about it. The Senator bench gets pumped. Phaneuf is gone seven minutes. The Senators come out in the third and take control of the game, they score, then they shut it down.

If the Senators put Foligno out in the next game with the purpose of pushing Phaneuf's buttons do you really think he should engage. Someone earlier said Phaneuf's actions were selfish. I agree.

alright, now that you changed it.....
Maclean is proving to be an excellent coach. Wilson is proving he is not able to push the right buttons to get consistency in his teams play on a regular basis. There is no tenacity in the Leafs game-the forecheck is non existent.
Wilson has simply run out of steam....it happens to many good coaches. Carlyle is a Cup winner without a job.

Not to mention, absolutely no way should Kadri be sat in favour of Rosehill. Kadris speed and skill could have been a difference maker, Rosehill's 5 minutes of ice time was an absolute waste.

- Barx

not sure maclean is a better coach if last night's game is any indication. i mean, OTT was outplayed badly most of the game. switch the goaltenders and it's a blowout in favour of TO. i'm not a wilson fan, but i do think maclean gets way more credit than he deserves sometimes. however, he does a an average team at best, playing over their heads, so what do i know...?

Considering they're the same age and one is a supposed stay at home, the other and offensive d-man, yet the stay at home has better offensive stats....not sure I'm in agreement.

Sigh, should we reintroduce the Schenn should've gone back to junior argument?

Leafs lost last night, ah well......16 minutes isn't doing Schenn any good either. Good way to stifle a kid's confidence.

- mykokes

I pegged Gardiner, and still do, as a 35 pt 3-4 guy. I'm sticking to that.

So, who here enjoyed the goaltending display last night? Rip the non calls all you want, but that 3rd was a beaut.

It was about Dion with Bruised jaw and all standing up for himself and showing the rest of the team the correct way of doing things. Bad for game good for team. I just hope they got it, because Burke did. That's why he's our captain.

Remember a few years back when Kaberle got rocked in New Jersey? The Leafs did nothing that night and we've been in the toilet ever since. We had big bodies like Pony and Antropov who got pushed around night after night. You stand up for yourself and your teammates because you know the other guy would do it for you. Burke has created an Army and Dion is their high ranking officer in the field. Brilliant!!

Why is Ottawa doing so well this year? Young talent led by heart and soul veterans. No feeling of entitlement.

- stevecarpetman

dion did the right thing taking on Foligno, win lose or draw.

i agree. burke agreed.

what kinda captain sends in a grunt to do his work? alfreddsson esq. or he would just cheap shot him with a flying elbow like he did tucker.

Game is over. The players have moved on to prepare for the next games. Let's do the same.

Both teams have been crap for the last little while. Let's not play the "whose better" game. Both sides sound like morons.

I thought the Marchand suspension was a bit lame, personally. His was lower, but not 5 games worthy in my books.

Whatever.

- Brian Huddle

Agreed it was a penalty but they had to suspend a Bruin for something. They have been walking the displine line all year.

Awww, come on guys... He still needs some time. Unfortunately I think Lombardi would be more of a contributor with a full summer worth of training...
- PTVinnyMac

I agree, but in the meantime, what to do? He looked so good last night coming into the Ottawa zone, like those rushes that get the crowd buzzing, then he would just burn it with an easy shot.

It's about creating a culture of standing up for yourself and not being pansies. I'd rather lose all 82 and come out hard and have guys standing up for themselves and play hockey the right way... then win all 82 and have guys turtling.

maybe so, in the big picture, its 1 game and dion is showing that if someone cheapshots you, take care of it.

i think it shows class that he faught himself instead of sending in a fighter to polish off foligno.

it hurt the leafs, for sure; in the long run, maybe not.

And I peg Schenn as a 30-35 point 250 hit guy, who will be a big part of any playoff run (when this team hits maturation).....as Gardiner's d-partner.

Totally disagree.

It was the team's response to it that was lacking. They should have stepped up and poured it on.

Thank you! "Show me a great goalie and I'll show you a great coach"

You know what the funny thing is? When Toronto gets capable goaltending they win games. But even then, it's nothing to do with the coach...

I'm not saying Wilson will win us a cup, just saying, there are other problems right now, but every one pins them on RW

Well, it was against the Sens.

And Foligno did a boo boo to Captain Phaneuf.

Stars are aligned.

- Pecafan Fan

Well than Phaneuf laid into foligno.

kessel got hit behind the play at least 2 times i saw, and once by the bench when he was trying to get off.

it happens, but yeah, thats why i said F it, start knocking some teeth out.

- big_dion

I tought that's why they had Rosehill in. If they are going to knock around your best players with guys that are larger and more intimidating, that's your enforcer's cue.

Prediction: when wilson is forced back into playing Schenn 20 plus minutes because of injury or trade, he'll go back to being the Schenn of last year, but even better. It's happend before, it will happen again.

Really? REALLY?

Thats how you get Buffalo syndrome. EVERYBODY knows they can walk all over them without reprecussion. Why? Because they dont stand up for themselves.

Sending in a Rosehill or Brown to fight Foligno would be stupid in this instance.
