before he was a defensive powerhouse, yes.

But Schenn doesn't do the open-ice hits like Stevens did. Phaneuf is the closer comparable in terms of style.

Schenn's Adam Foote, with a bit more offensive upside.

My buddy said it best. Schenn has it all. With time and lots of work, he could become a defensive powerhouse - like that of Scott Stevens. The biggest difference between the two guys though is Scott was MMEEEAAANNN. People we're scared to face him. Luke is a sweet kid, he's tough - and clearly he can lay the body - but he's got a "soft" demeanor.

Now it's Scott Stevens!
Great.

Tell your "buddy" to quit snorting over the counter drugs....its no good.

It sure will!

It will also kill our goals against, increase odd man rushes, increase the amount of times an opposing playing walks around our d.

But it should give our tenders more practice...so that might be good!

.A Newfie walked into a bank in Toronto and asked for the loans officer. He told the loans officer that he was going to Newfoundland on business for two weeks and needed to borrow $5,000, however he was not a depositor of the bank. The bank officer told him that the bank would need some form of security for the loan, so the Newfie handed over the keys to a new Ferrari. The ...car was parked on the street in front of the bank. The Newfie produced the title and everything checked out. The loan officer agreed to hold the car as collateral for the loan and apologized for having to charge 12% interest.Later, the bank's president and its officers all enjoyed a good laugh at the Newfie for using a $250,000 Ferrari as collateral for a $5,000 loan. An employee of the bank then drove the Ferrari into the bank's underground garage and parked it. Two weeks later, the Newfie returned, repaid the $5,000 and the interest of $23.07. The loan officer said, 'Sir, we are very happy to have had your business, and this transaction has worked out very nicely, but we are a little puzzled. While you were away, we checked you out and found that you are a multimillionaire. What puzzles us is, why would you bother to borrow $5,000?' The Newfie replied: 'Where else in Toronto can I park my car for two weeks for only $23.07 and expect it to be there when I return?

That mean streak is sometimes coaxed out of players, but very rarely.

Schenn doesn't remind me of Stevens, tbh. Stevens was an open-ice hitter, and Schenn likes to take guys hard to the boards.

Ya for sure. I think Schenn could, given the right circumstances.

Seriously though, his defensive game could be comparable.

He was always great in his end that was why everybody loved him, he lost his scoring as he aged and got meaner. Neither of them are even close to him.

It was worth a try.

I say the leafs just forget trades and tank the rest of the season... maybe we'll get a lottery pick?

He lost his scoring as the game changed, and Niedermayer came into the organization. Washington/St. Louis also had more offensive systems than the 90's teams. And yes I know Stevens had 78 points in Jersey. But that was before Neidermayer was a top line d.

I love how most people were yelling and screaming at me at the beginning of the season for saying this wasn't a playoff team and now everyone wants to tank or give up the season.

It's a team still in a playoff race......plenty of jockeying still to go.....but would I be disapointed if this team falls completely out of the race and has to make moves on pending free agents? Not at all. I think the correct term used by most posters was : cautious optimism
