Im not talking about getting the best goalie on the market... im asking if you think 9 years 51 mil with a full nmc was the best decision for the Flyers. - jak521
Its only 9 years because of the cap hit. |

At the time it was the right decision. Right now all of us can poke holes into the decision. |

Did this guy not watch the game?
A lot of fans don’t understand why the Flyers are carrying a heavyweight enforcer who earns $1.10 million against the salary cap but has played in just 15 games this season.
It’s because Shelley is an insurance policy against other teams who may want to take liberties with the Flyers skill players. - tpannacio
The other team was taking runs all night last night, we had a huge lead, where was the enforcer to stop all the runs Minnysoda took at our guys? |

I like Shelley, same thing, don't like the cap hit and his role is not needed in today's NHL. I know some can argue that it's still needed...BUT

on to something more serious to talk about...
what would you rather have if the Flyers score 4 goals
a Big Mac
or
a breakfast sammich - phi1671
I wouldn't mind the breakfast sammie, as long as they don't make it the bagel. The bagel at MickeyDs is just a rock in disguise. |

“It felt great,” Shelley said.
“You don’t look at it like … it puts a lot of pressure on yourself and you just want to come back and first of all enjoy yourself and try to contribute and it was great. I mean, it’s great that we won.
“That’s a big deal. When you lose you don’t think of what did I do? What could I have done? What should I have done? And, with the win and everyone feeling good and a complete game like tonight, it’s just great."
“I mean, it’s one of those situations where you know you forget your age sometimes, not that I need to be reminded,” he said.
“But, they sure keep you young, you know, going to lunch doing different things you forget they’re 19, 21, 22-year-old guys. And it’s really great to be around them.”

Yeah, I see Clutterbuck and Simmy yapping at each other and as game as Simmy is, I don't want him going with a guy that outweighs him by 50 pounds. |

Clutterbuck is a bit of a whining punk, huh? Didnt know that. So glad Jake scored on that play where he took a swing at Talbot... |

I disagreed at the time as well. Extreme years for a goalie has historically been a bad idea.. one wonky hip that he can play with and you have yourself Ricky D for the next decade. |

I thought Shelley was solid last night. You can make an argument that the other team wasn't very good and I can understand why many would be annoyed by his cap hit but give credit when credit is due. Normally people are complaining that his 3 minutes a game does thing for the team but last night he played 9 minutes. The problem people blindly hate him for his price tag and when he does play a game, where he's actually earning his pay, it's still not good enough. I wasn't here last night to see the comments of the lone goal Bryz allowed but the comments around here are so predictable, I'm sure Bryz was nailed to the cross. |

I think he's happy to be making 1.1 million dollars to hang out at the Flyers practice facility, playing in a game is an added bonus. This guy had a decent career and is now getting paid to hang out. It's hard to feel bad for someone with such a forunate situation. |

I have no ill will towards shelley, to say I hate him is a stretch. But I'm not gonna rant and rave about him either. Personally I cannot for the life of me understand how he's on the team. Then Pannach to write that after the several incidents of "running" our guys, c'mon! I'm sorry but if the Flyers feel they need this type of guy in the lineup then waive shelley and bring up Sestito. I seriously doubt someone will call him irrelevant out on the ice without having to drop gloves. |

I don't think its that he's unloved so much as he doesn't bring much on the ice. If he was at least fighting once in a while like he's paid to do, then yea I could feel better, but if he's gonna spend his time either being a healthy scratch constantly and when he does play skate behind the play, then what as a Fan am I supposed to love? - JoeRussomanno
Shelley played last night and he wasn't behind the play, or not keeping up with the play. In the game last night, there was no reason to fight. So why fight? |

I will be the first to admit that at the time Powe scored that goal, I was pissed. It was a 2-0 game and Powe scores on a shot that should have been saved. Fortunately he was very good outside of that last night. Ill give him credit just as often as I will be negative. |

exactly. That was almost a slap in the face to the fans.
So let's see the media has no problem creating a fuss about our goalie who is arguably trying to get acclimated here. But a guy who does absolutely nothing for the team, we can't get up in arms about? |

I fully understand the thinking and motivation behind it. I dont question that. They set their minds and did what they felt was needed in order to improve that position. I cant fault them for that. I just feel that there were probably better options, but they wouldnt have landed the prize guy. |

regardless of who you have out there on the ice, you will still have people running guys. The game is not set up to have the players police themselves anymore. it's in the hands of the off ice officials and as we can see by all the suspensions, the players will not change. at this stage of the game, i think someone will need to get seriously injured before the players will wake up. |

You didn't see those shots clutterbuck was taking on our guys? That's what Pannach is saying we need a guy like shelley for. Then he doesn't deliver. I'm sorry he did have a few good shifts, hockey wise. but to reiterate Mike Rupp, he was irrelvant. At a 1.1 mill cap hit you can't be irrelvant i'm sorry. |

It was a weird shot because it took off of the ice almost like it was deflected, though it wasn't. Bryz should have picked it up, but in a 5-1 win, it didn't matter. It's one of those saves though that bugs people. A shut out would have sounded nicer, but I'll take the 2 pts |
