Shelley played last night and he wasn't behind the play, or not keeping up with the play. In the game last night, there was no reason to fight. So why fight? - MJL
He played well last night.... even got a bit of PP time. On the norm though, he is not an NHL player. |

regardless of who you have out there on the ice, you will still have people running guys. The game is not set up to have the players police themselves anymore. it's in the hands of the off ice officials and as we can see by all the suspensions, the players will not change. at this stage of the game, i think someone will need to get seriously injured before the players will wake up. - phi1671
Yes I understand the game isn't that way anymore, well almost but we are in an agreement on the stage of the game. However the veteran insider/beat writer just contradicts that and says the guy is here for that purpose yet, he doesn't do it and is a 1.1 mill cap hit on a salary choked team. |

If you wait til he becomes a free agent the Flyers could get caught in a bidding war. By bringing him in now and working on getting him signed might play out to your advantage, and if it doesn't then you end up in a bidding war. However we didn't end up in a bidding war when they traded for Bryzgalov. Yes that contract was long and with a nasty NMC but he only got about a mil more a year, when if it was a bidding war it could have been well over the 6 mill mark. - JoeRussomanno
And if you lose that bidding war in the off season or if the price is too high for you, you can walk away. If you give up quality assets to trade for him now, can you walk away on July 1? Suter is in the drivers seat then, because of what you gave up to get him, and basically has a blank check to fill out himself. |

I disagreed at the time as well. Extreme years for a goalie has historically been a bad idea.. one wonky hip that he can play with and you have yourself Ricky D for the next decade. - jak521
You can say that about any lengthy contract, not just goalies. There's always a risk involved. |

well for someone to NOT be an NHL player he has lasted over 10 years in the league where the average players usually lasts between 5 to 7 years. since he started to now the game has changed and it's phasing out the type of player he is... |

It was a weird shot because it took off of the ice almost like it was deflected, though it wasn't. Bryz should have picked it up, but in a 5-1 win, it didn't matter. It's one of those saves though that bugs people. A shut out would have sounded nicer, but I'll take the 2 pts - funmaster18
2 points are two points, and he did make number of other pretty good saves. My concern is that its those weak goals that he has given up with multiple goal leads which have resulted in a turn of momentum and a come back. I could care less about shut outs, but weak goals can be back breaking.. That goal last night wasnt the weakest I have seen, but if it was the start of comeback which had the Flyers losing, he woulda been cooked for it. |

You didn't see those shots clutterbuck was taking on our guys? That's what Pannach is saying we need a guy like shelley for. Then he doesn't deliver. I'm sorry he did have a few good shifts, hockey wise. but to reiterate Mike Rupp, he was irrelvant. At a 1.1 mill cap hit you can't be irrelvant i'm sorry. - JoeRussomanno
Did that arrogant (frank)er Rupp now beak off at Shelley? I remember rosey cheeks Dubinsky saying that he'd be out of the league soon, but didn't hear Rupp's comments.
Rupp mocks Jagr at the WC, denies it and then takes Staal's knee out the next game. If Shelley wants me to like him, challenge hot shot Rupp to a fight and remind him he's a borderline NHL'er himself and not someone who should be going around mocking HOF'er just because he scored two goals in the WC. |

I just have faith in the Flyers ability to woe a potential free agent and keep him locked up. They aren't exactly shrewd in their contracts. |

No doubt.. but there are 12+ forwards and 6+ dmen on any given team.. you can mask injuries to those much easier than a goalie who is a clear #1.. most teams only have one of those. |

Im not talking about getting the best goalie on the market... im asking if you think 9 years 51 mil with a full nmc was the best decision for the Flyers. - jak521
Sure your talking about getting the best Goalie on the market. One in the same. That was what it cost to sign the best Goalie on the market, and make the cap hit reasonable. |

He did.. Rupp told him there is no reason to fight someone who is irrelevant.. it would hurt his tema. |

If Shelley is in the lineup the next time Rupp is playing us, (notice how i mentioned if and is there) I'll be completely happy with Shelley even taking the instigator on top of the fighting major. My gosh this is the flyers if anyone is gonna disrespect one of our boys, its the fans, when a player does some poop like Rupp and its on HBO now there's a certain amount of pride to go get back not only for Shelley himself but that logo on the front. |

I understand that, but there is too much other stuff they could have written. Also I think people as Pannach would do themselves a huge service to maintain some consistency. He just had a mini midseason lynch Bryzgalov campaign but an enforcer who is paid a hefty contract for his services can get scratched for 70% of the season and not fight like he's paid too. wow |

Well Voukoun has been substantially better in all categories than Bryz.. and had a better save% last season. Over the course of his career, which is almost double the games Bryz played, he also has a better career gaa and save% although they are very close. Yet one is on a one year 1.5 mil contract, and the other is making 49.5 more over the following with an additional 8 years. |

I think weak goals are a byproduct of lack of confidence, and only keep that confidence diminished. I hope he can kick his lull. |
