I know he did. Once the game was in the bank, Shelley should have sent a message to Clutterbuck, he didn't do it. - PLindbergh31
I would have liked to have seen that. Even if he can't physically win the battle against him, I'd like to see him show that you aren't going to push anyone around, so that when he is in the lineup, people at least have to think about that. |

One would think that. The Flyers werent willing to find out if Bobrovsky was going to be ready to carry the load. They decided to acquire and sign a proven goalie in the NHL. The Flyers work and see Bobrovsky more than any of us and you have to think during their evaluations they needed to upgrade the goalie. Now whether that was from Homer or Snider is another question. - stveshdy
And thats the other part of the equation. If it was Snider pushing for a top flight goalie (which is a common thought).. it really shows they were desperate. Desperate doesnt always mean smart.
In an ideal world.. we would have signed Vokoun to a 3 year 14 mill deal and then let Bob take over lol |

So it is. Play ball.

Voukoun I believe was also 34-35 yrs old. I dont see a team willing to commit long term on him. - stveshdy
Probably not. But a one year deal for 1.5? That's a steal. There weren't many teams who were looking for a goaltender. |

I just think this way.. he is paid very well to protect our players.. thats his job. So get out there and do it when its needed. |

IF Bob becomes capable of being a starter. |

Or no one wanted him? or he was asking way too much and teams pulled out only leaving the caps? Many things could have happened that we will never know.
I'm not a fan of the 9 year deal myself, but it is what it is. The cap hit is reasonable enough. Let's see what he can do down the stretch. The stretch drive and playoffs are what they pay him for, so let's see if he can strap the team on his back and put his work boots on. - funmaster18
If they walked away from the deal on account of either the NMC or length I wouldn't have been upset. The cap hit is only like a mil more than he was getting with phoenix. |

Depends on performance. We will find out whether or not it was a wise move. Jury is still out. Half a season doesn't make a 9 year contract.

Many people may be high on Bobrovsky, but there is no guarantee that he will get better than what he is right now. There was definately more positives than negatives in his game. The Flyers went after a proven goalie rather than relying on a young goaltender.
The question I ask is: If the Flyers got younger with all the trades why add a veteran goalie? |

I just think there were so many other potential ways to go about it.. We traded Carter and Richards.. you dont think we could have gotten a good goalie that way? Hell Luongo could have been on the block |

can't help but wonder what would have happened had lavvy gone back to bob for game 3 in buffalo last year. |

Maybe Briere is the incumbent enforcer, he is tied with the resident enforcer with one fighting major on the season. |

I agree. Vokoun himself was not expecting to sign a 1 yr 1.5M contract. |

I think in the long run the Carter and Richards deals will pay big dividends for the Flyers. One would figure the first couple years of the trade would be where the Flyers would take the hit, but the 3 of the 4 players the Flyers acquired have been major contributors, and Schenn has a chance to do so in the second half of the season. |

He played well last night.... even got a bit of PP time. On the norm though, he is not an NHL player. - jak521
He absolutely is an NHL player and has been for 10 years. And he showed again last night what I've said all along. He can play a 4th line role. |

Not for nothing, but right now Bob is 10-3-1 and has a better save % than most other goalies league wide. |

Shelley did a great job of deterring Clutterbuck last night. - bradleyc4
Clutterbuck is one of the top physical players and hitters in the League, and has been for a few years. Game in and game out, against every team he plays against. Now Shelley is supposed to deter that? And stop Clutterbuck from playing his game? What's wrong with that picture? |

MJL he played 9 minutes in a 5-1 win. How many do you think he would have played in a 2-1 win?
He has played a whopping 15 games, and has played 74 minutes.. 18 of which came in 2 games. He is the clubs 14th forward.. He does an admirable job in spot duty, but wouldnt last anywhere near a full season. |

That all well and good but he isnt the starter. We all know theres a difference when your the guy and have to play a number of games throughout the NHL season. Im not saying Bob cant handle it as he did a nice job last year. When Bob got into the second half of the season and the playoffs he was a completely different goaltender.
I cant go by his numbers based on 14 games. The hardest thing to do in the NHL is be consistant and I dont know if Bob can do that if he was playing as the starter. Every player goes through ups and downs during their career, the Flyers werent committed to making Bob the starter for some reason. |

His agent gets paid to figure that out, thats his job and he screwed it up bigtime. If I can remember correctly, I think Vokoun has a new agent. |

You didn't see those shots clutterbuck was taking on our guys? That's what Pannach is saying we need a guy like shelley for. Then he doesn't deliver. I'm sorry he did have a few good shifts, hockey wise. but to reiterate Mike Rupp, he was irrelvant. At a 1.1 mill cap hit you can't be irrelvant i'm sorry. - JoeRussomanno
All of a sudden were going to be listening to Pannacio? He's full of it. Clutterbuck was playing Hockey and competing. An enforcer isn't there to stop players from playing the game against your team. Hitting and checking is part of the game. I don't buy the irrelevant bit. It's horse poop. |
