All of a sudden were going to be listening to Pannacio? He's full of it. Clutterbuck was playing Hockey and competing. An enforcer isn't there to stop players from playing the game against your team. Hitting and checking is part of the game. I don't buy the irrelevant bit. It's horse poop. - MJL
That all well and good but he isnt the starter. We all know theres a difference when your the guy and have to play a number of games throughout the NHL season. Im not saying Bob cant handle it as he did a nice job last year. When Bob got into the second half of the season and the playoffs he was a completely different goaltender.
I cant go by his numbers based on 14 games. The hardest thing to do in the NHL is be consistant and I dont know if Bob can do that if he was playing as the starter. Every player goes through ups and downs during their career, the Flyers werent committed to making Bob the starter for some reason. - stveshdy
No I agree with you everything you are saying. He was a rookie last season. Never played that many games, or in those types of situations. He has greatly improved one of his biggest flaws in his game (puck control) has challenged shooters by coming out more than he did last year (needs work still) and has pulled a 180 with clutch saves. Last year he had a tough time making big saves in big moments... not this year. Granted it has only been 17 games in which he has been in net.. but now we will never know.
I think in the long run the Carter and Richards deals will pay big dividends for the Flyers. One would figure the first couple years of the trade would be where the Flyers would take the hit, but the 3 of the 4 players the Flyers acquired have been major contributors, and Schenn has a chance to do so in the second half of the season. - PLindbergh31
Cooter for Carter looks like a fair deal right now.. Hell if someone the Jackets offered Carter for Coots today.. would you do it?

(gasps for air) Yea I think you lay a smack down on clutterbuck. If you're a good enforcer you don't neccessarily take him off his game but the next time he's got someone lined up he might take something off it.
the only goaltender that I would sign to a 9 year deal would be Lundqvist, and then maybe miller - Jack-Meoff
Miller? Oh god never... listen to him complaining for 9 years is way to long... he acts like he's the best goalie in the world... comes off so arrogant...

He was doing a lot more than just throwing hits. He was running. There is a difference, and anybody who has ever laced them up (hell you dont even have needed to) knows that.
Well Voukoun has been substantially better in all categories than Bryz.. and had a better save% last season. Over the course of his career, which is almost double the games Bryz played, he also has a better career gaa and save% although they are very close. Yet one is on a one year 1.5 mil contract, and the other is making 49.5 more over the following with an additional 8 years. - jak521
Let's look at this with some common sense. Before the Flyers signed Bryzgalov, could they have gotten Vokoun for 1.5M. Honestly, not sure why the simplest of factors are ignored or not considered.

The worst that happens is Bob gets traded and we get a nice package in return. The other option is the Flyers keep him as a backup goalie for awhile and find someone who takes Bryz (which I think is unlikely). The Flyers made the choice and have to live with it now. Bryzgalovs career numbers are very good and I expect him to give us the same production while he is here.

actually, there was one time where those two were on the ice together sort of jostling for position on the faceoff and clutterbuck went down. soon after the drop, puck ended up in either MAB or gus's corner and clutterbuck came flying in but let up. it would have been late and we'll never know, but i wonder if he would have done that had he not known big jodes was on the ice.

The point is they traded and signed before they even talked with any other goalies. My point is that the market was so thin Vokoun could only get 1.5 to stay in the NHL. A better deal likely could have been worked out.

Interesting question. I wasn't the biggest Carter fan, but to not recognize that he was a very good player would be silly. I don't think Couturier will ever be a 40 goal scorer, but I think he will be a much better two way player then Carter. He's better defensively then Carter is right now.

I have to agree. It isn't in Shelley's job description to stop another player from hitting. Even if Shelley is only there to fight the fights our more talented and less tough players can't fight, it's a role none the less.
Clutterbuck is one of the top physical players and hitters in the League, and has been for a few years. Game in and game out, against every team he plays against. Now Shelley is supposed to deter that? And stop Clutterbuck from playing his game? What's wrong with that picture? - MJL
Whats wrong with that picture?
The fact that someone thinks that Shelley is capable of doing something for the team...

prepare for the storm.. may god bless your soul..
I wouldnt make the trade. Coots is going to be a hell of a 2 way player.

Vokun, knowing the Flyers needed a goalie, would have demanded more than 1.5m from the Flyers. There were only 2-3 teams looking for a goalie this offseason... The Flyers were one of them, and because they signed Bryz first, Vokun's contract dropped due to lack of options, IMO.
