if a trade was presented for a dman and they needed 1 million in cap space to make the deal which would really help them.....and Shelley was the solution, I think they would waive him. I don't think he stops them from making a move thusly I don't think he hurts the cap. that said, like I said, still want Rinaldo, Harry Z or evern wellwood etc playing over him. - nastyflyergirl
We're pretty much in agreement |

I simply made a comment about him not being an NHL player. I think he is in the NHL on the simple basis of his fighting merit. People can disagree with me, but thats my opinion. If he isnt protecting guys from clowns out there running around, what is he doing on the ice? He played on the PP in a 5-1 win, yet didnt enforce anything. Guys hit who they wanted when they wanted and how they wanted. I saw several other players get upset about it.. but nothing was done. Thats why I posted my statement. - jak521
You said after his contract is up will he be an NHL player still. I just said Doubtful because he will be almost if not 37 years old and a player that teams don't need anymore.
I get your point, and most agree he doesn't need to be here anymore, but it's just not worth debating anymore since it's been beaten to a bloody pulp since last year. |

I gave examples of how it happened. There were very late hits.. all night long. Briere never touched a puck but a guy ran him anyway (1st period). Clutterbuck takes a run at Carle with 2 seconds left in the 2nd when it was obvious no play was being made (2nd period). He runs Talbot and then tries to forearm shiver him on the Jake goal (3rd period). I gave you examples from three different periods.. there were also other instances that happened through out other portions of the game. I am not going to type out every single instance.. it would take too long.
If you didnt see it than I will not be able to explain. But I have played my entire life.. and I know running when I see it (or do it). - jak521
I couldn't care less if you've played your entire life or not. How long you've played Hockey isn't the discussion. Without even knowing it, through the power of frustrating, you actually just gave a better example then your original one.
Now I have to ask what your point is? The game is over, we won. Should we call Clutterbuck at home or send him an Email on how he took cheap shots on our player? I'm not sure if we can do so, but we could recommend Jody Shelley do this seeing how he was suppose to stop it somehow. |

Eliminate the instigator and bring back the bench clearing brawls and he can stop people from taking runs

Clutterbuck took liberties all night long, and no one said boo to him about it. As Jsaquella pointed out, there was zero reason for Shelley not to ask Clutterbuck to go last night. Shelley saw plenty of ice time in the third period, and the game was over early in the third period. |

I agree.. I dont care that he is on the team. It hasnt deterred them from anything yet.. just saying in my opinion its his intangibles that have him in the NHL. He is a locker room guy and an enforcer.. he is not an NHL caliber player in the sense of how I am using it. His skating and defensive play dont have him in the league. |

I get what you mean. Clutterbuck took runs quite a few times, specifically when he took a swing at Talbot during the Voracek goal. |

That's on the coach, not on Leighton. The guy started one NHL game the entire season, and he's thrown into an elimination game on the road? Insanity. - PLindbergh31
maybe he thought since he handled the fire in the boston series the year before, literally having to save the day in his first game dressing since his injury 2 months before, he could handle it again? |

My biggest problem isnt that Shelley didnt do anything, but that nobody did anything.

My biggest issue is that when Either Couturier, Read, and Harry z or Rinaldo make up the 4th line, you have an extremely fast, talented, versatile 4th line that can defend or attack given the situation. Shelley severely hampers the 4th lines ability to be dynamic given the other possibilities on that line. |

right but unless there are injuries of 2 players like now, even that doesn't affect anything. believe me, I would prefer to be able to play a young kid instead. that is the issue I have but i don't think its a cap issue

Shelley is limiting. Thats what he is. Might be a good guy, but he absolutely limits the effect that our 4th line has.. |

And it's situations like that you want to make teams second guess coming into your building and taking runs. |

Absolutely.
Team toughness, as i mentioned earlier, is something we lack. |

When it's a close game I will take the PP every time. At 5-1, it's not about getting a PP, it's about standing up to the guy so Briere and other skilled guys aren't getting pounded. |

Which is why Jody Shelley has a job, whether we agree with it or not. You can complain about it all you want but what does it change? |
