Absolutely.
Team toughness, as i mentioned earlier, is something we lack. - jak521
Had Shelley at least challenged him to a fight, it shows that someone stands up for the team. It could have been anyone, I would just think Shelley would want to take that role given that he hardly plays. |

When it's a close game I will take the PP every time. At 5-1, it's not about getting a PP, it's about standing up to the guy so Briere and other skilled guys aren't getting pounded. - PLindbergh31
How often were Shelley and Cutterbuck on the ice together? |

Shelley is limiting. Thats what he is. Might be a good guy, but he absolutely limits the effect that our 4th line has.. - jak521
Couturier has one of the fastest skaters in the NHL on one wing, and the slowest skater on the other wing. So it balances out. |

Clutterbuck was in the box 4 times last night. Isn't that what you guys want? Do you want Jody Shelley to beat him up or do you want a power play? - Schenn2shine
If on that play at the end of the 2nd when he hit Carle, he hurt Carle... but got a penalty.. would you feel like that was sufficient enough? The point is when a guy is running around like that, hitting your top players.. its only a matter of time before one of them gets hurt.. Enforcers are supposed to prevent that. At least thats the common idea. |

That's my problem. It could have been anyone. At some point, it should have been Shelley. |

So what if Shelley pulls a Jesse Boulerice? Is this the expectation of Shelley? |

I don't think anyone is saying he should crosscheck a guy in the grill. However, at some point, the enforcer is supposed to get the number of a guy who takes a run at a skilled teammate, and deliver retribution if the opportunity arises. That retribution means to challenge the guy to a fight.
Last night, the game was out of hand, and there was ample time for retribution to be sought. It didn't have to be Shelley. It could have been Hartnell or Simmonds or even Coburn. But that's the job of an enforcer. Part to keep guys from taking runs, part to get retribution when one happens. |

We don't know this. We don't know this at all. There is plenty of talking between whistles as 24/7 has shown us. |

maybe he thought since he handled the fire in the boston series the year before, literally having to save the day in his first game dressing since his injury 2 months before, he could handle it again? - hammarby31
I think it's more likely he picked Leighton's name out of a hat. |

I thought this isn't what you wanted. I thought the best way to get back at the other team is to score a Power play goal. We did that. Jody Shelley was just filling in and because of this, everyone is up in arms. |

It's not like Jody Shelley was on the bench reading the News Paper. I'm sure he was fully away of what was going on. In fact, I wouldn't put it past Laviolette to tell Shelley to not risk a suspension. Heck, if Shelley did drill Cutterbuck the same way has Shelley did that Leafs player in the pre season, we'd still be female doging about Shelley. There is no win for Jody Shelley. |

most of us seem to be in agreement here about Shelley, why he was in the lineup and what he did or did not do to Clutterbuck last night except for you and i can't understand what you are trying to convey. what do you think about it? |

I think Shelley was in the line up to replace injured players. That's it. |

Last I checked fighting doesn't earn a suspension. |

But there are no place for goons in the league. We want Jody Shelley and every goon out of the league but we want these guys to beat up other players while they're playing. I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me. |

I will never concede that anything Tim writes is clever or funny. Unless the joke is how bad he is at covering the Flyers. |
