If on that play at the end of the 2nd when he hit Carle, he hurt Carle... but got a penalty.. would you feel like that was sufficient enough? The point is when a guy is running around like that, hitting your top players.. its only a matter of time before one of them gets hurt.. Enforcers are supposed to prevent that. At least thats the common idea. - jak521
So now your telling me he didnt even play his role last night (Shelley)? |

I think it's more likely he picked Leighton's name out of a hat. - PLindbergh31
i know you're joking, but he had no other replacement options...none that i'm aware of anyway - unless he's able to just take guys off the phantoms roster at will? |

But there are no place for goons in the league. We want Jody Shelley and every goon out of the league but we want these guys to beat up other players while they're playing. I don't get it. It doesn't make sense to me. - Schenn2shine
Last time I checked fights still happened in the league. It's not like we are asking him to do anything that outrageous. Rinaldo gets in a fight almost every other game. For goodness sakes even Danny Briere dropped the gloves once this year. Why is it so much to ask the appointed enforcer to go and drop the gloves with the guy taking runs at our players all game? |

let me see if this helps. so as to avoid any prejudice i will remove the name Shelley and instead use the term player X.
a. we think player X is not skilled nor a good fighter.
b. we think player X makes too much $.
c. we think player X should probably not be on the team.
c. but the team we like still carries player X on its roster, allegedly as an enforcer-type player.
d. player Y gets hurt.
e. player X gets a chance to play in player Y's place.
f. during a game, the types of situations that we think player X is on the roster to take care of, whether we agree with them or not, present themselves.
g. player X does not respond.
h. we further question why even carry player X if player X doesn't do what we thought the team had player X on the team for. |

If Shelley isnt going to fight (which is why hes on this team) then why use a roster spot on him? His job is to stop other opposing teams players from taking runs at his teammates. Will he completely stop that, probably not but your atleast letting the other team know that if you do this our enforcer will have something to say about it. |

I thought this isn't what you wanted. I thought the best way to get back at the other team is to score a Power play goal. We did that. Jody Shelley was just filling in and because of this, everyone is up in arms. - Schenn2shine
It's not what I want. If it was up to me, the Flyers wouldn't have one.
But if you do carry an enforcer on your roster, this is exactly why. Just because I don't agree with carrying an enforcer doesn't mean I don't understand the logic that goes into it. |

Unless JvR or Rinaldo goes on the IR(not LTIR) they are at the 23 man limit. |

The Flyers have signed, drafted and traded for the majority of tough players. Cote retires, we sign another guy just like him. When and why are the Flyers expected to change? They'll be the last team to change. |

I watch hockey... i know Shelley can't play. I'm waiting for you to prove me wrong.
I can't prove to you that Shelley sucks. It should be blatantly obvious to you, if its not, then you need to figure it out on your own.

Carter under John Stevens routinely checked other teams top lines, and was a solid defensive Center with the Flyers. - MJL
Richards was the shut down center... Carter was always the 2nd line center.
Always.

When your "enforcer" isnt being an enforcer, whats the point of holding a roster spot for him?
I had no problem with Shelley dressing last night, but I do have a problem if he doesnt do what he is suppose to do. You can argue either way about last night but I think it was the perfect opportunity to do what he was paid to do (which isnt scoring or assisting on goals). |
