You musta missed the part where i listed his stats...
Thats a bad career for a guy who can't play in the NHL...
Talk about "blanket statements" - archion113
Not sure how the fact that the guy has been in the NHL for 10 years says he can't play in the NHL... maybe he isn't on the same skill level as other players, but he is in the NHL. He serves a role, whether you or anyone else agree... He is doing something right to still be there. |

It's all easier said then done. The Wild's Coach could have been keeping Cutterbuck from Jody Shelley's shifts. Cutterbuck's assignment could be to wear down the other team's talented players with hits. Were they the right kind of hits, probably not. Cutterbuck did spend a lot of time in the box though. - Schenn2shine
I dont think Shelley had to go after Clutterbuck specifically. He could of mixed it up with any Wild player. Anyway, its over with and I expect Rinaldo to be in the lineup next game. |

Has anyone bothered to look at the TOI shift charts and see if Cluttrbuck and Shelley were ever on the ice together at the same time? Because Jody Shelley doesn't decide when his number is called. I have looked at them. - MJL
So you would indeed know that they were in fact on the ice together? |

Exactly. I've also pointed this out. Jody Shelley is just filling in. He has a contract with the Flyers, so the player must play is all I'm saying. Why does Shelley have to be the guy who goes after Cutterbuck, when so much is being made of team toughness? If Shelley wasn't in the line up, what would have been done? - Schenn2shine
In fact if anybody had bothered to do so, they'd see that during the 3rd period, when if at all, Clutterbuck was running around, Shelley was never on the ice when Clutterbuck was. And if anyone bothered to look or notice, they'd see instances where Shelley was put out on the ice, and Clutterbuck was taken off the ice at the same time as Shelley was coming on. How convenient for Mr. Clutterbuck. And if they'd look at the TOI charts in the other periods, they were on the ice together in the first period when the game was still undecided, for 10 seconds of icetime. And in the second period they were on the ice together for 39 seconds. But not for one shift together in the 3rd.
Clutterbuck is currently 2nd in the NHL in hits to Matt Martin. He led the NHL in hits the previous two Seasons. But Jody Shelley is supposed to stop Clutterbuck from throwing hits on people. All the other enforcers in the League must suck at it also. Because none of them are stopping Clutterbuck from doing what he does either. |

This makes sense now...
You are Jody Shelley. That would be the only reason why anyone would ever defend such a useless player.
Maybe a family member of Shelley, i dunno... i doubt even they defend him this strongly...

I'm not defending anyone. I'm just relaying the facts. If you have a counter point, and a different opinion, I'd be glad to discuss it.

At what point in the game did Clutterbuck start acting like a jack clown most? The third period? What was the score at that point? 4-1? If you have a guy on your roster whose "primary" function is to take the other team's jack clowns to task, then what better opportunity to let caveman loose off his chain? |

Richard Girardi asks "is it that he just cant play? Did they make a 50 million mistake?"
Seravelli "Its a legitimate question."

S2S said Lava "might" have told Shelley not to take liberties. I'm speaking from Lava's perspective. If you're dressing the guy, then why not use him for his intended purpose at that point? |

Apparently, when Clutterbuck was on the ice, it was up to Shelly to just jump on the ice. So I guess Jody Shelly decides according to those posting here today.
Damn the lines! Damn Laviolette!

Shelley and Clutterbuck were never on the ice together in the 3rd period. In fact there was one shift where Clutterbuck started his shift with 2:53 left in the 3rd. There was a stoppage of play, at 2:45 left. Shelley was put out by Laviolette. Conveniently for Clutterbuck, his Coach pulled him off the ice. That's an 8 second shift for Clutterbuck. Awful short for some reason. Shelley can't control when he's on the ice, or what the other Coach does. As as I posted earlier, Clutterbuck has had 5 fights in his NHL career, and hasn't fought since the 09/10 Season. I haven't seen a lot of Clutterbucks games, but that means one of two things. Either he's a clean hitter, so he doesn't get into a lot of issues as far as fighting. Or he's not willing to fight and answer challenges. The game has changed. A player can run around and not have to answer for it. Blame Shelley all you want. But it's misinformed.
And once Clutterbuck went off the ice with 2:45 left, Clutterbuck never got another shift. But Shelley did. So maybe, there was a deterrant there?
So it appears to me that S2S opinion is being contradicted, but it seems as he's the one who has it right here. |

I don't know. The League is changing. And players such as Clutterbuck don't have to stand up for themselves. |

That's Laviolette fault, if it's really a fault at all. |

There was a time where a coach got a huge fine for sending his enforcer on to the ice with very little time left in game to fight. |

Why the (frank) are we still talking about this? Rinaldo was out due to injury, and they were able to plug in a 10 year veteran who played 9 minutes of sound hockey, and didn't hurt the team defensively.
For chrissake it is getting so old. |

I guess as long as Shelley is around, this discussion will be. I've tried to supply some facts and shed light on what really happened. |
