....And players health is the worse because of it. The NHL is surely in a tough spot when it comes to this subject.
The NHL can only react after the fact. Players on the ice can act immediately, and even better, act to prevent such things in the first place...but the rules just don't allow it anymore. - MBFlyerfan
That's why i think we'll see it swing back in the other direction a little bit. Not like the broad street bully days but they can start with throwing out the instigator penalty.

I think removing the instigator would be enough. Then Shanahan could police the guys who show blatant lack of respect for other players. And isn't that what this really is about, the lack of respect many of these players seem to have for each other?

if they throw out the instigator penalty, do you think we will see more instances of guys throwing legal checks and then having to fight another guy or less?

I think that nonsense is something Shanny can do something about. You don't want guys taking runs at people, but on the flip side, I hate seeing a guy throw a good clean check and them having someone try to fight him. And it seems that this kind of thing has increased a lot since the instigator rule was put in.
B/c that's exactly what the other team is doing with Clutterbuck. They wanna dance around the big guys and take shots at everyone else then you send your big guys against who they leave out there. - JoeRussomanno
Why risk a suspension on another unsuspecting player because your mad at another player?

It strikes me as cowardly. - MBFlyerfan
yeah, there's a fine line there. I don't like it either. But if you take out the instigator, will you see even more of it? that would seem to be counterproductive.

I dont know. You would think the players would know the difference. But over the past few years, as respect has gotten lower and lower.......
It didn't seem like that was a regular thing before the instigator was put in to place.

probably more, but so what? get your fight game up then. Besides you can only get in so many fights before they throw you out of the game.

WHy is anyone risking a suspension? Furthermore, if shelley is suspended no one is missing him. - JoeRussomanno
Coaches are fined for what you are asking.

For the most part I had problem with the way Clutterbuck played last night. He threw a lot of good checks.
But....he did run some guys, In my opinion that is when a player skates a long way across the ice to deliver a hit that has no bearing on the play.
That is when the team needs to take care of it. - MBFlyerfan
As long as it's not a blindside and/or targeted hit to the head I have no problem with it either. S2S probably posted the best example of it with the Seabrook clip.
