I hate that deal.
Gleason is another guy who is UFA after this season.
I really want to see Voracek extended and play here.
He has skill and a good work ethic. |

#Flyers are close to making a trade for an offensive D-man. URGENT need for someone to play the point on PP. Could be done this week. - griouxmvp2012
Offensive D?
Weber, Suter, J.Johnson, Streit? Who else could it be? |

The #Flyers are looking hard at a deal with the #Leafs, however it would not be for Franson. I will have more on this tonight (cont)

Yes, #Flyers are close to a trade for a d-man. But no, Franson is not on their radar despite #Leafs and Flyers being good trade partners. |

Homer isn't lacing them up; the trade can certainly still happen.

Negotiations are in beginning stages with Voracek contract. But what can he expect to get paid? A look at comparables:

Why pose that question? Look no further than our actual #1, Pronger, being out. Though our defense suffers, we are still able to compete and stay in 4th for the conference. I'm not saying Giroux is more valuable than Pronger or vice versa, but JVR+Schenn+draft picks for Weber is an overpayment. Both of those guys are future 1st liners; no reason why you would trade all of that for a Weber, who although is a top defenseman, is showing that he doesn't want to stay in Nashville. - steelydan
I am not counting Pronger in any scenerio. I personally think his career is finished, and I would hope for his sake he thinks the same. Therefore Timonen, as he is now is your #1 d-man. So I do believe a question like "what would be a bigger blow, losing Giroux or Timonen for 30 games? Is a valid question".
JVR and Schenn are far from being pegged as future 1st liners. Weber is already an established top 3 dman in the league in his prime.
You have a chance to get a guy like that, who can be here for the rest of his career, you do it. Guys like that win you cups. Flyers can lose some depth up front. |

Let me come at you from a different angle.
If you trade JvR and Schenn for Weber. Shelley plays every single night. - Schenn2shine
They could always trade for a depth forward using a pick if they really wanted to in this scenario. |
|
|
|
So let me get this straight. Your were ok with trading lupul, sbisa, and 2 firsts for a 34 year old pronger... but you think trading schenn and jvr plus a second for a 26 year old Weber is a bad deal?
Weber at 26 MIGHT be slightly less valuable then Pronger at 34 in pure hockey skills, but if Weber plays here for the next 10 years then its a win big time... - RooNosHockey
This is what I'm telling you.
The season before Pronger was traded here, Lupul was made expendable by Claude Giroux. Giroux wasn't a full time player when Lupul was still playing here, Giroux was being worked into the line up and playing on the 3rd line. By moving Lupul, Giroux was able to move up.
You have to consider what was going on at the time. |

If Weber really didn't want to be in Nashville he'd have pulled a Turris on them. He has every right to not sign a long term deal that pushes him into his UFA years if he so chooses. I don't think him not wanting to stay in Nashville (we don't know if this is true anyways) would have any bearing on the Flyers wanting him. |

Sure they could but why give up JvR and Schenn and manage to get back a 4th liner in return? We have a strong 4th line right now but now people want to break that up? Why? |

My point is that Pronger is our #1 until he comes off the books. Then the conversation can be played differently. But if you ask me: "Would I rather lose Pronger and Timonen, or Giroux", its a no brainer.
Truth be told, Pronger's future will likely be decided in the off-season. From there, we'll know if he's going to retire (or rather stay on LTIR for the remainder of the contracT), or if he'll be good to play. From there, we can readjust the team and have a new number 1 defenseman, or number 2. |

That is an interesting article but he mixes in guys like Laich/Leino who were UFA and get overpaid compared to RFA types.
I think 2.5-2.75M/yr for 3 years would be awesome for Czeckie the Beast.
Homer might offer a bit more ~12 M for 4 years, I'd love that too. |

2012 Winter Classic cash split troubles NHL alumni
http://www.thestar.com/sp...split-troubles-nhl-alumni - tangent_man
I couldn't care less if the Alumni receive one red cent, but for the NHL using the exucuse of "This is still new to us" is completely laughable. I'd love to see what would happen to me if I go into a board meeting with my President and CEO and use that excuse??? |

For me they need more of a stay at home physical guy..
I like Schenn but I think Burke overvalues his players. The media helps him big time with it.
If it is indeed Schenn, which is just a guess by me I'd like to see him paired with Kimmo. The kid needs a mentor just like Subban in Montreal.
Either way, Schenn isn't an offensive d-man so this post may be useless |

Because some people think getting a bonafide perennial Norris candidate in his prime is worth those losses, and sets the team up better over the course of the next 5+ years. Well, I can't speak for them, but that's what I'm assuming they're thinking. |
